I ran 10.5 miles today in preparation for a 15K in Schenectady, NY on Nov 13. In fact, I've done a 10 miler each of the last 5 weeks, so I'm as ready as I'll ever be. This is the road race that defines me as a runner. I've done it 27 times since 1978. In 1990 it was the one that almost took me out. That was that year that my valve broke down mid-race and I couldn't recover for weeks and I had to schedule the OHS. 20 years ago that was and now I'm out to conquer that course for the 18th time in the last 20 years.

Good Luck Sumo. I'd say you are more than ready. Good training plan, injury free, next week taper so that you are rested for all out effort on race day. :)

Best wishes, Jack, on #28!

But first I did a 10K tune-up race this past weekend. Tried to run at the pace I wanted to do the 15K. I had something left at the end but not so sure it was enough for another 5K. I'll taper off a bit this week and slow it down a few seconds per mile next Sunday and all should go well.

BTW, I created a new website for my artwork. I may not have mentioned that here before. You can check it out here:

I'm thinking maybe at my age I should space out these races a bit more. I felt like I wasn't really recovered from last week's 10k, so yesterday I decided to just jog through the 15K very easily. It was my slowest time to date, but since it was my 28th time at this race, I was determined to do it anyway. One consolation, I was 5th man on a USA Track & Field Master's team that got 3rd place. It's one of those things I tell the club every year, if you're desperate for a 5th man, put my name down, but don't expect to win anything.

Hey, that's still a podium finish. Nothing shabby about that. Recovery will have that kind of power. At least you did it, and now you know how to set up your training for next year. It's been a great season for you, it sounds. Thanks for the update.
