I went this morning for my first dental cleaning since surgery. My dentist noticed that my blood was coagulating fast, unlike his other heart patients on ACT.
I came home and checked my INR...it was 2.7!

Should I worry about this fast coagulation?!

My INR on Monday of last week (12 days ago) was 2.2. My cardio increased my dose to 8.5mg five times a week instead of four times, and 7.5mg on two nights instead of three. This past Monday, my INR was 2.6. Today 2.7.

Has anyone's dentist made any such remarks to them?

No, my dentist has never made that observation on me. It appears to me that your dosage may still be low & perhaps you should be taking 8.5 for 6 days & 7.5 for 1 day. Reason I say this, is because there really wasn't much of a rise on your INR after you dr told you to change your dose to 8.5 for 5 & 7.5 for 2.

I would try that for this whole week & then check INR next Saturday & see where you are.

I wouldn't let what the dentist said about the "fast coagulation" cause you worry or concern. I suspect you will be just fine my friend! :)

The key question here is what was the INR of his other anticoagulated patients? They were probably well over range 4+ or above that even. If your in range, there is supporting evidence and lots of it, that dental surgery, including full extractions can be done safely on patients with and INR of less then 4.

My dentist has never commented one word about anticoagulation or coagulation with me in the last six years.
BTW, I noticed that your surgery was last September. How often do you usually go for dentals?

Eva, don't be concerned at all. Maybe some of the other patients take Aspirin too.
When I took Aspirin with my Coumadin, I was more of a bleeder. Tiny nicks would ooze!
This week my INR is 3.7 and all is good.

Thanks, Norma. This is what I wanted, by my cardio did not agree and I do not want to upset this cardio as I like him! I will go along with him until he changes his mind and go along with me later:D when he know I was right

Thanks, Ross. This is comforting. My INR is in range.

Marsha, Normally I go every 4 months. But I did not dare to go earlier!!! I had them cleaned just before surgery. This was the longest period I stayed without. BUT to my and his surprise...there was not much plaque and my teeth were not as bad as I or he thought they would be. I was very keen on flossing after each meal since surgery as I knew I would not go to the dentist soon and I brushed twice a day using the round 'Oral B'.

You are right, Bina (as usual:)). He asked me if I were on plavix or aspirin. I said 'no'. Then he asked about my dosage of warfarin and recommended I mention it to my cardio, which I did mention to you, all!!:)
