Hi, all--
My dad's diagnosis changed from dementia to psychosis brought on by withdrawal. His (ever so excellent doctor ) says Dad's liver is fine and there is no evidence of brain damage--two things he said the opposite of just a few weeks ago. Dad went back to the hospital for some tests last week, and that's when this was discovered.
The latest prognosis is that Dad should improve in the next few weeks to one year. One year. Can you believe that?! Anyway, there hasn't been much change with Dad since this all began in mid-May. He has good days and bad days, but still confuses people (he thinks I'm his first wife and calls my husband Frank --it's Mike), doesn't interact much, and seems to have more in common with a dementia diagnosis than a psychosis diagnosis. My family decided to wait and see, though we will probably have him transferred to a better nursing facility within the next month if there's no change.
We'll see...but thanks for your thoughts and prayers!
