I will be praying for your Dad. I am 7 weeks post op from a Pulmonary Valve replacement, Tricuspid valve repair and Maze procedure. I would write down all of your questions and sit down with your surgeon and ask away or you can ask here too. We have all been through this. Welcome to our little family.

WE ARE JUST SO WORRIED OVER HIM. PLEASE PRAY FOR HIM .

Welcome fellow Kentuckian. Its normal and OK to be worried. He will be following a long list of folks who have done this successfully. It is scary when you think of HEART  surgery but there have been several hundred thousand patients that have paved the way for him. Is he going to UK Medial Ctr is Lexington ? If so, I am also a "graduate" of that OHS program.:D

He is having the surgery at central baptist in lexington thanks so much for the words

Wishing your dad a successful surgery and a healty, smooth, and uneventful Godspeed recovery!

It is good that his heart is strong...this will help a lot. I had two valves replaced and I did very well during and after the surgery.

Oh, I can add that he should follow the instructions that the hospital writes to him for his discharge. I read many threads here where people took stairs before they left the hospital. In my case, whether it was due to having two valves replaced, or for a particular reason not mentioned to me, I was allowed to do stairs at home only once a day for four weeks! I used to come downstairs in the morning, and go upstairs at bedtime.

If you have any other particular questions, do not hesitate to send me a private message or email.

Good luck.
:)

Just wanted to welcome you to VR & to wish your dad well on his upcoming surgery.

We are all survivors here & we're here to offer you our support & encouragement to help you through this stressful & scary time for your family. Hopefully by reading all the success stories here, your fears & doubts will be somewhat lessened & you can instead focus on the positive results OHS has to offer your father.

My prayers are with you, your dad & family! :)

I know it sounds really scary right now. I don't want to minimize the risks, but I do want to say that these types of surgeries are being performed all the time now. There are many on this site that have had surgeries at least as involved as what your Dad is facing - including my son. Please feel free to ask any questions you have. there is a wealth of information and support here.

Good Luck to your dad on his surgery. I know that June 15th is a good day because that is my son's birthday. It is perfectly normal for everyone to feel worried and apprehensive, but just log on here and vent or ask questions. There is always someone around 24/7 to answer or at least to yak with. I will be praying for your family on the 15th. Please keep us posted. :)

It is scary. Many have gone before him and many will go after also. ;) There are almost always some sort of bump during recovery, but please realize that the pro's are capable of dealing with anything thrown at them, so don't get too worked up about it.

thank you all for the kind words

Hi! Prayers that all will go well for your dad! My mom had a mitral valve replaced and a triple bypass 4 years ago...she is doing very well, and she had major heart issues before her surgery. She had a long slow recovery, she just took it day by day. And mom was 64 at the time of her surgery. Please keep us posted-best wishes to you and your dad:) Deb

Wishing the best for your dad. I wish your family well during this trying time, Good luck & God Bless.

Prayers for you and your family. Your dad will do great. As others have said we are here to support you all. I had surgery two weeks ago today. I will be 63 soon. I found that the wait was truly the worst part. As they told me in the hospital "we are here to take care of you, let us do that". Relax and lean on the professionals but don't hesitate to ask any and all questions here.

You've certainly got my best wishes and prayers for your dad.

Like your dad, I, too, was 63 at the time of my surgery. I didn't have any bypasses but I did have combined aortic root and valve replacement, a rather complicated procedure. And I am doing fine -- very active, enjoying life.

It is totally normal to be scared silly -- we all were. But prospects for your father are very, very good. Just continue to be there and be strong for him.

Cheers,
