I had a call from my brother this morning, and he said I should try to watch Oprah today. His grandniece, who goes by the stage name of Diablo Cody, wrote the screenplay for the movie Juno. We haven't seen it yet, but it is expected to be an Academy Award nominee for Best Picture.

Anyway, I haven't met her, but my brother says she is an "interesting person with some interesting ideas," so I guess I'll find out.:p :p

I just watched - we get it early in Chicago.

She was very charming and engaging. Her parents were in the audience, and called her Brook. Jennifer Garner says she also calls her Brook.

I sense she has quite a successful career in front of her.

I won't see Oprah until 4pm, so thanks, Karlynn for letting me know . . . I was wondering what my brother's remark meant, but I guess it's ok!
Her family is originally from Palos Heights, but I'm not sure if any of them still live there or not.

Look her up on IMDB.com and read her mini-bio. She's a free spirit - no doubt. I liked her - she seemed very open and friendly.

Well I wasn't happy to hear the ad teaser before she came out . . . stripper turned screenwriter! Oh, well.  I will have to get the scoop from my brother on how she ended up in Minnesota. And yes, Karlynn, I am in agreement that she was bright and engaging.:)
We haven't seen the movie yet, but I guess we will go this week-end.

I was out buying some groceries & just tuned in to Oprah --- the segment coming out right now is about the Halloway girl that disappeared a year ago.

Is your brother's niece story up next??

I watched..thought she was so cute/different........like you, Mary:D ..I think she will have a great career in front of her...Really....Bonnie

Caught the show -- I especially liked it when her Dad said that he was glad her career had taken the turn that it did, but perhaps if it had not been for her life experiences, she wouldn't be where she's at today!

Good for her --- I wish her much success!:)

Mary - if you read her IMDB.com bio you'll find out how she got to Minnesota. She was a stripper and wrote a book on it - that I have to believe is very entertaining given the movie and what I saw of her interview. I will be looking for other things she does. They probably used the stripper story because it is pretty unusual to know that a stripper has written a probable Oscar screenplay. Given what I saw of her personality and her free-spirit bio, I'm guessing she probably wasn't too upset about the teaser.
