I was wondering if anyone has a valve problem with arrhythmia and also has COPD. How do you handle the Advair, Spiriva, or Allbuterol that most people with COPD take. I was told 2 years ago that my MV would one day have to be repaired as my regurg was moderately severe . I had no other symptoms other than some palpitations. About 6weeks ago I developed sob Cardio told me it was a bad cold PCP said the same. One night it got so bad I went to ER I thought for sure the cordae had snapped on my Mitral Valve but after all the tests (blood ekg chest xray) they told me I had COPD and the cold I had caused a flare. They put me on Albuterol, Prednisone and antibotic. The following week I saw a Pulmonary doc who put me on Advair and Spiriva. A few days after this I had a holter monitor done. I have had many holter monitors done and they really showned nothing this time I had 3 runs of Ventricular Tacy. 14 8 16. I am very worried. I asked the Pulmonary doc if this can be caused by Advair, he said unlikely . He also told me this is the only meds that will help my breathing. On the prescribing information with the product it says it is possible this can cause fast irratic heat beat. Does anyone here have COPD and what do thay take

Thank You

I was just diagnosed with

I was just diagnosed with

mild asthma (reactive airway disease) - don't know how it compares to COPD (?).

Anyway, I was put on Singulair and Albuterol. I use the Albuterol rarely and stopped using the Singulair as it was making me "angry" feeling and jittery. I am SO sensitive to medicines. I see the pulmonologist in a week. I am going to ask him if there is anything I can take for my asthma that will maybe have less side effects. It did not cause tachycardia, though, but if I had stayed on it, it might have.

Your doctor is WRONG - these types of medicines can most certainly cause tachycardia and people with MVP are so sensitive to them - anything with ephedrine, etc. can cause tachycardia in even people with 100% perfect hearts.

I would see another doctor and ask if there are other meds that you can try.
