John & I saw Dr. William Ryan on May 13 for a 1-year post-op on his mitral valve repair.
Dr. Ryan said that everything seems to be doing fine. The last echo (albeit, only 1 month post-op) showed only trace/trivial leakage. Dr. Ryan said that is fine.

I asked about the long-term "permanence" of his repair, and Dr. Ryan said that, because it was for a ruptured chordae -- with no damage to other parts of the valve or degeneration of the valve -- it should not require further surgery.

Congratulations on the first anniversary. I hope there's many many more. It's particularly inspiring as my mitral valve repair was also from ruptured chordae with no other damage so it's great to hear Dr. Ryan's reassurance on the longevity of the repair.

Wow! now that is something to smile about :)

I am 6 weeks post-op mitral valve repair, had birth defect - bad segments and holes in mitral annulus. My Cardio said after latest Echo (12 May) that there is still a mild leak. When I asked if I'll need surgery in future he only said: we'll have to monitor it to find out. See you in 6 months.

oh goody.

Congratulations!

I too had MVR (3 months ago) for a torn chordea. I hope to follow your path and avoid "climbing the mountain" again.:)

Ahh....CONGRATULATIONS on the first anniversary :).

Sounds like a great appointment, too!

Marsha,
I am glad to hear your husband's 1 year checkup went so well. I hope you and your husband continue to get such good reports.

John has an appointment 6/20 for an echo & chat with our cardio. I'm hoping the echo will be the same, if not better, than the one from last June.

FYI: Dr. Ryan now has an office in a med building adjacent to Baylor at Plano. Don't know when he opened that office, but I don't think he had it last year when we saw him pre-op & post-op. I think his practice maintains 3 offices, per the business card.

That is Great news .You have also relieved my mind somewhat;
I just had my 3 month post op appt. , and was told that my new
bovine tricuspid valve had a minimal leak , but that it was 'normal'.
In truth I thought that he was trying to 'sugar coat' the problem,
though if your cardio says the same It helps to set me at ease .
Wishing You the Best,D
