Just curious, if anyone had any good movies..surgery related, a movie that helped them with surgery, or just a good movie in general. I love movies..I don't know if anybody else is passionate about them also. But I thought people could share some.

Before my surgery I watched a movie called 50/50. Very emotional film, and although it focuses on cancer, I felt like it does a great job on showing the shock of being told of something do serious, the denial phase, and than the understanding of..this is really happening. Powerful movie, you get a lazy night..check it out!

I try to shy away from movies dealing with surgery. I don't feel like reliving it via a movie screen.

I did watch Hugo last night. We saw The Artist at the theater, and it was excellent. We also caught Midnight in Paris, but it's not worth the price of a movie ticket . . . IMHO. The scenery was spectacular so I'm glad we saw it via On Demand.

50/50 was pretty good. I feel it covers the 5-stages (sort of) quite well. I think there are lots of movies that accomplish the element of life-changing surprise and show main characters having to accept what was put on their plate and work through it.

There is a sappy comedy "Life as We Know It" which is not applicable to surgery at all, but being new parents moved both me and my wife since it goes through life changing events and deals with a little baby.

My 18 year-old suggested I watch an odd little movie called "Mary and Max." It was made by an Austrailian film maker and I loved it. I won't say anymore other than it was wonderful.
For non-stop laughs I loved "Waiting for Guffman" by Christopher Guest.
"Driving Lessons" with Rupert Grint and an actress from the Harry Potter series. This film is nothing like Harry Potter but is about an unlikely friendship between an adolescent boy and an older women.
None of these related to coping with a medical diagnosis and surgery but I loved them all.

Duffey! Midnight in Paris was spectacular! Hugo was a very fun movie also. Actually the last movie I saw in theaters before surgery, I'm kind of a movie geek so it holds a special place in my heart.

Also I would like to note, that recommended movies don't have to be surgery related. But Gymguy, I think that's why I enjoyed 50/50 so much, was I felt like I could relate to the character as far as the phases. Denial, feeling that friends don't care, along with the rest. That's what I got most out of that movie.

I just watched The Grey tonight, fun film and takes a pretty decent take on life and death, the will to survive and fight..whatever it may be. I do recommend it, little gore to it, so 17+ only please :)
