Hope this is helpful.

7 months post-op for mitral valve repair courtesy of Dr. Stephen Colvin at NYU Medical Center. Clean bill of health at the six month mark from Dr. Ted Tyberg, Cornell.

And now some numbers:

6'0" 207 pounds (all-time high porkiness due, I figure, to slower basal metabolic rate; clean arteries and therefore what I call revenge eating -- I DESERVE to eat whatever I want) 28% body fat (all-time high here too.).

Read Lance Armstrong books, and went out for a walk/jog yesterday:

1/2 mile walk to warm up, then alternating a jog with a walk every tenth mile for another 2.5 miles. Time: 7:30PM. Temp: 81 Humidity: high

Duration: 41 minutes. Average heart rate: 133. Max heart rate (UNBELIEVABLE): 165. Average speed: 4.3mph. Max speed: 7.5mph. Kcal: 719. Cool down: 40pbm recovery in 4 minutes.

Sips of Gatorade from a Camelback every few minutes.

I woke up this morning feeling fine.

Rock on Mitral man. You have plenty of company in the ranks here! Every day is a new beginning- a good friend of mine told me it's good not achieve all your goals the first time out, then you have nothing to shoot for! Isn't it great to feel good after exercise instead of crappy?

I want to help people who go through the kind of stuff we've been through -- there just isn't that much in the literature about heart rate training post-op. Who better than US to help get hard data?

Good progress! Feels good to start shedding the extra pounds we gain since surgery...
Thanks for posting.

Thanks, PapaHappyStar.

Thanks, PapaHappyStar.

I'm thinking I need to publicly declare a target. OK, two targets:

o 175lbs by December 22, the one year anniversary of my procedure

o 5 mile run in less than an hour over hilly terrain by end of this October
