My nieghbor takes Coumadin for a-fib.
He goes for a colon check in a few weeks and asked me to drive him.
Then he tells me his doctor said to stop his Coumadin five days prior to the test or more.
This really upset me and I told him my doctors(the gastro guy and my cardiologist) told me two days was sufficient............and it was.
After having five polyps removed I had no problem whatsoever.
I have urged him to call his cardiologist and get a recommendation.
I still can't get over how ignorant some of these people are, when it comes to knowledge of anti-coagulants.

Well what do you expect? After all, the are just "Practicing".........I had some real scary moments with medical staff with both of my parents...It really makes you wonder.

I just had an Upper Endoscopy AND Colonoscopy with Lovenox Bridging Therapy.

My schedule was as follows:
LAST Coumadin (3.5 mg) 4 days prior to the procedure,
NO Coumadin and NO Lovenox 3 days prior to procedure,
Begin Lovenox 2 days prior to procedure, AM and PM,
Lovenox again 1 day prior to procedure, AM ONLY
NOTHING on the morning of the procedure,
Resume Lovenox and Coumadin (6 mg) evening following procedure,
Lovenox AM and PM plus Coumadin (6mg) next evening
Lovenox AM and PM plus Coumadin (6mg) following evening
Lovenox AM and PM plus Coumadin (4mg) 3rd evening post procedure
Lovenox AM and PM plus coumadin (4mg) 4th evening
Lovenox AM and PM plus Coumadin (3mg) 5th evening
TEST INR next morning and resume normal Coumadin dose schedule.
