Does anyone here (ladies, obviously) suffer from mittelschmerz (painful ovulation)? Is there anything to be concerned about with this and being on warfarin? This is why I ask:
1) I've been on BCP for 12 years, almost continuously. So I haven't really ovulated in a good long time.
2) I was switched to a progesterone-only BCP when I got my mechanical valve 6 years ago because of the concern over blood clots. A couple of times I had pain, but didn't connect them to my cycle until later.
3) When I finally realized the pain could be associated with my cycle, I was in the ER with an ovarian cyst that had burst. Due to the warfarin, the bleeding from the cyst did not stop and I had to have emergency surgery to stop the bleeding and got 4 units of blood transfused. I was then put back on the mixed BCP and have not ovulated since.
4) We are in the process of trying to cycle with a surrogate to have a baby. We are in the testing phase and the RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist) had me come off of my BCP to make sure I would produce the eggs necessary for cycling. Today I started experiencing pain and realized it is the right time to be ovulation pain.
5) I read online (I know, a dangerous thing to do) this snippet from WebMD:
"As an egg develops in the ovary, it is surrounded by follicular fluid. During ovulation, the egg and the fluid, as well as some blood, are released from the ovary. While the exact cause of mittelschmerz is unknown, it is believed that the fluid or blood may irritate the lining of the abdominal cavity, causing pain. The pain goes away once the body absorbs the fluid or blood."
So my question is, will this become a huge problem, like the cyst, because of my being on warfarin? Could the blood they refer to wind up not stopping? Or am I just being overly paranoid? I wouldn't worry so much if it weren't for my previous experience! Someone please ease my anxiety!
Thanks in advance.
