Would you 2 please post your surgery dates? I will put you on the VR.Com calendar...Bonnie

12/17 is my big day

12/17 is my big day

Bonnie, thanks for thinking of us!

My date is this Friday, 12/17. I have the catherization in the morning and am scheduled to be my surgeon's second surgery of the day. So, I think it will be a long day.
Martha

Good luck to both of you and we will be looking forward to celebrating your first anniversary along with Dick's second next December, Martha. I will check for an update on you before we leave for FL and when we arrive!

Bonny, ditto: thanks for thinking of us.

My date is next Tuesday, the 21st. Same basic deal: catherization in the morning and surgery some time thereafter.

My brother-in-law, who is himself a cardiac surgeon, has suggested that catheterization should take place at least a day before surgery so as to minimize stress on the kidneys.

Beats me.

Don't know about others on the forum. Dick had his catherization the day before surgery and remained in the hospital that night for surgery first thing the next morning. Good luck, Mitral Man- will be looking for all good reports from the other side of the mountain.

MomOfThree, good luck! See you on the other side!

MomOfThree, good luck! See you on the other side!

How long do you figure you'll be in the hospital? They've said 3 - 6 days for me. Maybe we'll pass each other in the hallway and not even know it!

MomOfThree,

I'll be thinking of what you're going through tomorrow. Second Surgery might be around 9:00 - 9:30, if your surgeon likes doing surgery as much as mine does.

Please keep your hands and feet inside the car at all times, and do not stand up until the ride comes to a complete stop. You've done your part. You've prepared yourself, and you've gotten the right people for the job. Now you must relax and let them take charge for a little while.

Good journey,

Martha and Mitralman, you are both in my thoughts and prayers as you each go through the journey from which I am now on the other side of. By Christmas, you'll both be back at home with strong healthy hearts. Now that's something to celebrate!

The journey was not something I'd like to do very often but I must say it was not nearly as bad as I had expected. Guess the fact that we patients get to sleep through so much of it really helps! It was much harder on my husband and family. I just kind of breezed through it.

I've been home for a week and a half now and am doing great. My biggest problem is trying not to do to much because I feel so good that I tend to over-do. Then I pay! So a word to the wise -- no matter how good you feel, REST! And then rest some more.

Know that you've both got a big wonderful and caring family from all parts of the globe pulling for you and waiting to hear the good word. Please have someone post so we won't worry!

May God bless you both and give you peace.

Kay

See Ya Soon!

See Ya Soon!

Hey guys, it's around 5:00am. I'm leaving around 5:30, cath scheduled for 7am.

Thanks for all your understanding, support and prayers, it means the world to me!!

MitralMan, I think we're on the same path. Hospital stay hopefully 3-6 days. Never heard that about the kidneys though. Hmmm. Originally, I thought about going in last week for the cath to get it over with. My cardio said most of the people do it at the same time but they would accommodate me either way. But then I figured go for the one stop shopping : ).

My husband, Patrick, said he would post. Have a great weekend everyone!!
Martha

Martha, I'll look for you.

Martha, I'll look for you.

See you soon, VR or RL.

Kay, thank you -- and delighted to see you're doing so well!

How do you use your PC? Desktop? Laptop? I normally use a laptop on my chest on the couch or in bed, but I guess I won't be doing that for a while!

Good Morning MitralMan!

I was actually using my laptop the day I came home from the hospital. I just put one of those pillows that are stuffed with those little microbeads in my lap. My computer sits on it, I'm in my recliner, and to the web I go.

My laptop is little. It's a tablet pc and probably doesn't weigh more than 5 or 6 pounds. It's great except for an annoyingly tiny keyboard, but I'm even adjusting to that. I would think you could do this with any laptop but if it weighs 10# or more you'll have to have someone put it in your lap and take it away. They make portable computer tables for laptops so you might check one of those out.

Get your recuperating area all set up now and you'll feel so good when you get back home. If you have a recliner, go ahead and and arrange everything you need around it. I have such a command post set up I think I could run the world from my recliner!

My thoughts and prayers are with you in these last few tense days. I pray you'll have the same overwhelming sense of calm and peace that I did a few days before surgery. I knew God was in charge and I was ready to get my health back. I went to sleep praising God and woke up praising God. (With time out to curse the tube of course)

God bless you,

Kay

Thanks, Kay. I wonder how MotherOfThree is doing?

Yep, sounds like you've got that last minute sense of peace and readiness that most of us thankfully get. And then it's over before you know it. I know you'll do great and we'll eagerly be watching for your post on the other side.

I really over did it today and nearly killed myself! Just woke up from a 5-hour nap and am ready to go back to bed. I logged in just to see if Mom of Three's husband had posted. If she was the second surgery and her schedule was anything like mine she's now off the tube and resting in ICU. My tube was taken out just before midnight and I knew that since I had survived that stupid tube, it would all be downhill from there. I imagine we'll see a post about her in the morning.

Keep up the good attitude and think about how good you'll be feeling right after the new year. Starting 2005 with a healthy happy heart is a good thing!

Kay
