Mitral valve replacement.

Hi.

My son is going for a mitral valve upgrade.
He had a complete AVSD repair, with a deformed mitral valve the surgeons decided it was best to put a prostetic one in.
He is now almost five and going for sugery in 3 weeks time, does anyone know of any other child that has had the same procedure? I am at sea at the moment suffering from anxitey in worry for my child. hopefully there is some else I can talk with to ask questions.

Ash, Hi, I don't have experience with Mitral valves, and can't think off the top of my head anyone here whose child needed a Mitral valve around your sons age. There aren't that many chd parents here and there can be a difference between kids and adults as to when to operate, choices etc. So you may also check out some of the CHD groups. I know TCHIN has members from all over the world and has a pretty active email group pdheart http://tchin.org/support/index.htm Maybe you could try there also.

I have a friend whose brother with Downs Syndrome had valve replacement surgery at age 14. I don't know if that helps, but I can pass along any questions.
