Hi Guys,

For those of you in the UK or who are able to access the channel 4 website, there is a live mitral valve repair on at 10.25pm tonight from the papworth hospital. By the sounds of the description of the operation, it is almost identical to my procedure so I'll definately be tuning in.

Not sure i could watch, don't even think i will try. Although i bet Curtis would want to, he wanted a picure.

I'd love to watch it.
Do you have an address for the site so we can try to watch it on our computers?

Right, they have now had to stop showing the programme as it has over-run already so we will be shown the remainder of the operation tomorrow night, not live of course.

Apparently they thought it was a relatively minor repair necessary but in fact the valve was far more damaged than had shown in the echo. The surgery is still going on so we didn't see the heart begin to beat once more.

The surgeon isn't a fan of minimally invasive surgery.

From what I can gather, the pre-op TOE showed only posterior leaflet prolapse but it turned out the there was also prolapse of the anterior leaflet too so it took the surgeon an extra 15 minutes to sort out the anterior prolapse. The valve had a good seal and the annuloplasty ring was fitted just at the end of the show. It was quite disappointing not to see the heart restarted but they said they'll show that during tomorrow nights show.

Over all it was very interesting to see the surgery carried out and although I have seen it done on internet videos, its the first time I have seen it carried out on UK TV. It was especially interesting for me as it is almost identical to what I had done (three replacement chords to P2 and P3, cleft closure and an annuloplasty ring fitted).

I don't think you can watch it live but you can probably watch it on this system tomorrow.

Sue, thanks for the referral. I can reach the site from your direct but there are alot of programs available. I know I need to click today's date when I try to watch it tomorrow, but does the show have a name to make it easier to search. Thank you....this is so great. Hate to admit it, but when I was 9/10 years old we didn't even have a TV....and look at us now. What a great time we were born into.

Yes, what is the show called? I went to the site but didn't see anything (title) about surgery. Would be cool to see.
Can I also watch Britain Has Talent on this same site? I don't see it listed either.

I am really a neophyte on this computer stuff. When I tried to play the video of the surgery on Channel 4, got the message "this service not available in your area". Went to help page and it said they could not broadcast it outside the UK. Anyone else have this problem...I'm thinking it"s just me.
