Is there any evidence or knowledge that an enlarged LV with slightly reduced contractility be the cause of severe MV regurg to an otherwise normal valve?

Just FYI - some of us aren't so fond of Dr. Bolling. He reviewed my wife's file in 1998 and I can say (with the benefit of hindsight) that his conclusions were wrong. Our son -- who was born healthy and without any complications -- wouldn't exist if we had listened to Dr. Bolling rather than going to the Cleveland Clinic for a second opinion. That's an entire life down the tubes had we followed his advice.

I'm sure he's a smart guy and a wonderful surgeon, but there's a fine line between tackling a problem aggressively and acting brazenly. In my opinion, he leans towards the latter.

Sheylathomas, thanks for the information. My thoughts if the left ventricle were enlarged, this condition in itself would or could skew the valve opening in a non-concentric configuration causing regurgitation secondary to the enlargement. If his be true, then it may be plausible to consider a favorable outcome by reverse remodeling of the LV with beta blocker medicine as I understand in many cases beta blockers will reduce the size of the heart.

Christian, your past situation is a testimonial to get a second opinion regardless of the circumstances. Hope it has continued to work well for you.
