I know MVP is much more common in women than men. Could someone tell me in 100 people how many would be female and how many male. In MVP with regurg how many would be female and how many male if the regurg makes a difference. I have tried to find these stats but can not. Can someone help me.
Thank You

I'm a 45 year old male and I was diagnosed with mvp 20 years ago. I've read a lot about it over the years and do know that women are diagnosed with it more often than men at roughly a 4:1 ratio. One website that may be of interest to you is www.mitralvalveprolapse.com. Hope this helps. I know there are many people in this forum a lot more knowledgable and well versed in this subject than me.

I'm 44, male, and had MVP with severe regurg till my replacement in December. I was diagnosed with the problem a year and 10 months before that. The doctors originally said it would take 5-7 years to get at the operation point. Will

I posted this question because I am curious as to why the clinical study done by Dr. Enrique_Sarano at the Mayo clinic had 63% men. If MVP is so much more common in women why was only approx. 1/3 of the patients female. Is regurg more common in men than women. As a woman with MVP and regurg I am very interested in knowing this.
