I was dx in 2000 with moderate AI, and mild MR and TR. I hadnt been for checkups since 2003 and rently went to a new cardiologist where I live now (city). He has been thorough I must say, Echo, stress test, Pulm func test, TEE and now a heart cath through my neck tomorrow. I guess I am nervous about this, I havent see much information on it and not many who have had it in the neck. The card is mainly checking for pressures since my last cardiologist in 2002 dx me with PH and never told me. None of the other tests this go around allowed him good readings. I am feeling somewaht like a guinea pig. I found this sight before some years ago but just now returning. It is so nice to be able to talk to others who know how it feels. I am sure I will be OK after tomorrow gets here (my cath) but until then I cant seem to concentrate or think about anything else!

I would find it hard to believe that between everything else, they couldn't get what they wanted. They've already run better tests then this cath, so I don't get it.

Being consumed by the thought of a medical procedure like a cath on the day before is quite normal. I'd be surprised if you weren't.

I remember being quite nervious as I had no idea what to expect and the thought of it just seemed so unreal. When I went for my cath, I didn't actually know in advance that they were going in through the groin. The literature that was provided to me to explain the procedure said they may go through the groin, neck, or arm. Otherwise, the booklet seemed to suggest the rest of the experience was the same regardless of entry point. It didn't explain how they choose the entry point.

I was very naive about all this at the time. When my Card was scheduling the cath, I asked if we could schedule it early afternoon so I could leave work early, have it done, and catch my usual train home, thinking it was like scheduling a dental appointment. Of course, he gave me a wierd look and suggested I might want to take the day off, maybe even a couple. I sure feel stupid now :D

The pressures is what they could not get...."Technical difficulties" they said.....hmmmm....hope the cath goes better than the rest of the tests did! haha

Thanks for the comments, I sure have checked for messages, helps me feel a little more normal!

Is this cardio working through a university (teaching) hospital? Has he done a lot of caths, especially this kind? What is his success rate? I hope all goes well for you. Post again when you can.

Cath thru the neck

Cath thru the neck

well I am home and it was no where near as bad as I thought! He went in, checked the pressure (which were good), and told me to make an appt for 2 months and then a year for the possible slu of tests again. My neck is bandaged up and it feels more like he poked through muscles (soreness when turning my head). All is good! Thanks for all your replies!! :D
