I will be a week post op on Monday. My right breast started hurting in the hospital and I just thought it was from all I just went thru. Well the day I was leaving, Matt was helping me get dressed and said "When the hell did that happen?" I was a little freaked out because I hadn't really looked down there yet. I finally looked and noticed that the whole half of my right breast is on big bruise. I think the bruise hurts more than the incision. My doctors NP called this morning to check on me and I told her about it. She said some ppl bruise more on one side of the incision that the other. Its just the breast that is bruised though. It's not all up and down on one side. anyone else have this problem?

I had a pretty good bruise on one of my breasts. My incision itself only had one area that bruised.

I was hugely bruised my second OHS but less so my first. The right side of my chest was more shades of blue and black and green but it healed well and within about 3 weeks, no sign of any bruising.

My cardio called to check on me when I was first home and I 'freshly' said to him I had bruises where I am sure no human has ever been bruised before. He chuckled and said Not to worry. He was right.

BUT if you feel your's need checking, definitely follow up.
Once again.....everyone is different. If in doubt, check it out.

I don't remember bruising from my initial surgery, but when I had my wires removed, the bruising was horrendous across my entire chest. I couldn't cover it using BOTH of my hands. Of course I was on both Lovenox and Warfarin at the time, so I figured this affected it. Bruises go away very slowly on me and I think it was still noticeable even at the end of the month, although much lighter and a variety of colors. I would expect that yours will start going away soon, fading to the beautiful green color. :p If you don't notice improvement by the end of the week, you might want to have it checked out.

Oops, Laura hope your buise heals soon!

Did you see my Tawdry Shirt thread about "therapeutic bras"? I suppose a supportive bra might have helped (or were you already wearing one?). I had a pain in one breast my first night in my room and, under drugs of some sort, I yelled at the nurses who put something like a tight ace bandage over my breasts. I guess that was a medical approach to the "thearapeutic bra" thing. I do not remember an bruises there, but aren't some of the drainage tubes underneath at least one of the breasts? Maybe something was wrong with the drainage tube? Your blood thinners must have kicked in quickly. Mine took forever to kick in, so the only bruises I remember were the many many ones up and down my left arm for the many, many daily blood tests. In fact, it looks like a still have a bruise on my left hand.:(

Lisa, when and why did you have your wires removed? Have others here had their wires removed?

LIsa is probably referring to the pace wires. It was about after mine were removed (one was sewn in very tightly). that my breat started hurting.

No, the sternum wires. I had them removed about 5 years ago (5 years after my surgery) because they had turned during the healing process and one in particular was bothering me - bruising under my skin, painful to the touch, or even when I was wearing something with a heavy zipper. I would have had them removed earlier if I'd known it was an option, but I always forgot to mention it in my annual cardiac checkup.

The scar itself is now about 1 inch long, right between my breasts, so they did lots of stretching and reaching to get to all the wires. One was embedded in the bone, so they just clipped the knot and left the rest. The others slid right out.

There's several threads about others who have had this procedure. It seems that most of us are pretty thin. In my case, my chest is thin, but my butt disagrees!

I just had bruises evenly distributed around my sternum scar. My worst bruises were on my arms from all of the poking.

over the years there have been quite a number who have had one or two or all wires removed. our first one was a little girl who was very thin and they hurt her because of that. she was actually admitted because she had several other health issues and she was fine. Ben had his removed. maybe some will come in and tell you about their removal.

by the way, anyone headed for surgery who wants to know how many wires they have need to ask before you leave the hospital. it must be fun to know how many you have. I didn't know to ask so am in the dark. usually we have only one visit to surgeon after surgery and you can ask then as well.

Laura my right breast was bruised as well. It is all better now!!! Now I have a fishing line looking thing coming out of the middle of my scar and at the top a little bump with what looks like a very thick thread. The surgeon's nurse said the top thing was the knot and the fishing line was stitches. I go back Tuesday for her to take care of it. It hurts where the bra sits because the fishing line pokes into me. It looks like i might haave more line coming out of the bottom so I will have her look! My brother is crazy and said "want to go fishing, you've got the line and I have the hook" ha ha ha!! I'll be happy when Tuesday comes!!

Carole, I had the same thing. It also stinks because it won't heal. I am lucky to have a surgeon for a brother who clipped it for me. It hurt though!

I'm 5 weeks post-op...no bruising but my right breast is still numb. Nurse said this is normal but I can't say I've come accross that here. Anyone else?
