Put 1/4 Cup of unpopped popcorn in a paper lunch bag. Fold over 1/2" twice and staple with two staples. (The microwave has no problem with this little bit of metal) Microwave on high until popping slows. Open bag and pour into a bowl. Spray with "I Can't Believe it's Not Butter" and salt (or don't :) ) to taste.

It's so easy, so lowfat, so cheap and so good for you...and a new discovery for me--I just had to share!

Found an air popper at a garage sale for a buck. I'm loving it. Popcorn is a great very low calorie snack if you don't add butter. I'm with you.

Wow!! How nice to read this today, the day that I am beginning to "count calories." Popcorn is a wonderful snack when served without the butter. When I am tempted to munch on something that might do in my diet, I now have another option. Many thanks,
Blanche

Nancy, I used to have an air popper and I don't know what happened to it. I wondered if I could pop it in the microwave without oil and found the recipe on the internet. Next, I'm going to try yeast flakes on it--I'm told it's pretty good.

P.J.

What would the yeast flakes do to the popcorn?

We used to take molasses and bring to a boil and pour on fresh popped popcorn, stir and yum!

I was gone when you posted the thread PJ. So what's the answer to Peggy's question, and did you try the yeast flakes?

Whoops! Sorry, Peggy, I missed the question. The yeast flakes are for flavor instead of salt. I still haven't tried it...a bit apprehensive.

I love popcorn and I do pop it in a pan with oil. The one thing dry popping ( air popping) for me is that it causes alot of bloat and can be uncomfortable. Good Ole Beano! ;) so I don't mind the oil. Try it with sesame seeds or a small sprinkle of Parmesan cheese instead of salt. :D

a few years ago I found an old popper for the microwave.. it is a plastic bowl with vented lid..and it pops up beautiful microwve popcorn.
I do like a bit of margerine melted over it.... too dry for my tastes the other way..but what a great snack.
In a pinch I have done the brown bag trick too, and it is nice..
for some reason it seems lighter in the microwave than in the hot air popper?
