I would appreciate any feedback anyone would have on this.

I'm coming up on my one-year anniversary of my Mitral Valve repair. The only medications I take now are one 50MG Extended Release Metoprolol at 10:00AM. Along with that, I take one low dose aspirin. Since I started taking my medication, I have only forgotten to take my meds on one day. I remembered when I was at work, which is 25 miles from my home. I called my cardiologist to ask him if I was going to be OK if I missed my dose for that day (I did take my aspirin). He said that was fine, just take my medication the next day, it shouldn't be a problem. However, that night, I noticed an increase in PVC's. I was glad to get my Metoprolol the next morning.

My problem today was that I took my medicine to work, got through the day, got home early and realized at 4:00PM (6 hours later), that I had not taken my medicine. I thought about what I should do, and I finally decided to go ahead and take it.

So my question is, did I mess up? I haven't felt any different. My plan was to go back on my normal schedule tomorrow. I was just curious if I really blew it by taking my meds 6 hours late, or if it really won't make a difference and I should go back to my normal schedule. I used to take two 50MG tablets each day 12 hours apart, so I thought since I used to take two that it might be OK to take the one since it had only been six hours.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I would not double up ... Just get back on your normal schedule, try and remember your meds and don't worry about it ... I use to keep 2 days of meds at work but the problem is I was not sure if I took them or not so I just resume the next day ... wait, I'm confused, again:rolleyes:

I use to take my medications in the morning and like you I would forget and think about it when I was at work. So I changed everything and now take my pills before going to bed at night that way I never forget.

no worries.....I take my meds at night, including 50mg of Metoprolol. I've missed a few doses at night and taken them first thing in the AM, per my doctors advice.

you have not messed. with my medications there is always an information sheet in the bag with the bottle of medicine giving instructions as to what to do about missed doses. If I forget in the morning, I will take it that evening and resume regular schedule next morning. You can always call your pharmacist, too. he/she has much information that most of us don't ask, but should.

Since I used to take two 50MG tabs, I initially chose 10:00 and 10:00, because I knew I would be awake by both of those times. I work as a software consultant, so I keep REALLY strange hours. My problem was that my 10:00PM Metoprolol was causing insomnia, so that's why they switched me over to an extended release tablet. I haven't had any issues with my insomnia since then. So I think taking my meds at night is not an option for me.
