My husband just got an AVR last Friday, and came home on Tuesday. Since then, his blood pressure has ranged from 114/72 (normal) to 99/59, which I think is low. The nurse said to lower his metoprolol from 75 to 50, because the amount needed to control his pressure in the hospital was higher (more stress) than is needed at home. Today with the lower pressure, he also felt dizzy.

Has anyone else had this blood pressure problem? What do you think? I appreciate your input.

I had the exact same situation after surgery. My blood pressure was low and my pulse. It made me dizzy and very tired. They cut mine
in half and the problem went away.

At one week out he is going to have good and bad days, ups and downs ... it will take a bit to get it all regulated ... keep in touch with his cardiologist and I'm sure all will be well ... at one week out I was still detoxing from all the anesthesia etc. ... I started on 100mg before surgery and am now down to 25mg and really don't need that but take it so I won't be labeled non-compliant by yet another doctor:rolleyes:

Post op I had similar BP readings.....was taking Meto 100 mg per day. It was too much, lowered it to 75 mg per day.
Then, many months later, lowered it again.
If he is dizzy, he needs to move slow and not bend over.
Keep track of his BP readings and meds, write it all down and report back to his doc.

Yup...had that problem too a month after surgery. I already had normal low BP to start, but the metropolol lowered it even more. I not only felt dizzy, but very weak and exhausted. They lowered the dose by a half and then finally I had to go off of it completely. However, will be starting a new beta blocker as the heart rate is still high.

Hope things get sorted out.

Just lowered mine from 100 to 50 last week and feel much better. I think in another week it will go to 25mg per day.
I am not a DR. but I think that it is probably not a bad thing to have some beta regulation for at least a little while as the heart is still trying to figure out how it works now there is good blood flow.
