I was in Orlando FL this past weekend for a cat show. On Saturday night, I went to dinner with a longtime friend and two others. I had met one of the other women years ago, but had not really gotten to know her.
Somehow, my MVR got brought up during the evening and Deborah said that she has been a cardiac nurse in a hospital (retired when she started her family of 4 kids but is planning to go back). Her 81YO MIL -- who is a retired RN -- had AVR (porcine) 3 years ago and has been on warfarin for a-fib. Goes to a lab (I think a lab) for INR tests weekly and when she gets her results, she adjusts her own dosage.
I told Deborah about home-testing, said that her MIL should qualify for home testing through Medicare and told her about this website.
I've met cardiac nurses before who didn't really convey much understanding about warfarin. But Deborah was very knowledgeable about it, which was refreshing.
