if my mother is on 2.5mg of coumadin everyday except SUN & THURS... and she took 2.5mg on thursday instead of fri. and on FRI she took the 2mg, will this mess up her INR? Last time she tested her INR was at 2.2. She is not due for a test until about 10 days from now. ( should she test earlier?). She had an AVR w/ St Jude's and her range is 2.0 to 3.0, acc. to her MD.
I'm worried b/c I've heard you shouldn't double up on a dose if you miss it, etc... but I would think, .5mg would not make a difference. I appreciate your comments. Thank you all. This site has been so helpful.

She should be fine, just resume the normal schedule. She may test a tad higher, but I doubt it.

Did she note the dosage on a piece of paper. every time they change my dosage, I also make a point to write it down and repeat back to make sure I have the new dosage and days down correctly. It is a good practice to do, since INR changes and so does dosage. good luck on the next reading.

This happens to people all of the time. It makes little difference. If we operated on such a narrow range that 0.5 mg made a serious difference, most everyone would be dead by now.
