I have been in Minnesota for several weeks. I miss New Mexico, but I do have a lot of fond memories of Minnesota and Wisconsin. This is where I met Barb, (who I am missing terribly). Today and this evening I have been thinking back to a special day just over twenty two years ago. The occasion was Barb’s 40th birthday. I had been racking my brain trying to come up with a perfect celebration.
Today I took my camera, drove a few miles across the border into Wisconsin and retraced much of the day. This is how things unfolded twenty two years ago. First I rented an classic Rolls Royce limousine with a driver. This is not as expensive as you might think-but also not that original. Taking the limo to some restaurant downtown sounded like the kind of thing that had been done a million times before, and I wanted something different.
Then I thought about something Barb and I had discovered together: a little known natural spring that gushed from the ground-cold and pure, forming a beautiful trout stream. Then it hit me-we would enjoy the limo ride to Maiden Rock, and have a deluxe picnic by the spring. One of my best friends knocked herself out preparing gourmet snacks for the ride, and a picnic basket for when we arrived.
I drove back to day, where I took and have included four pictures---a beautiful farm passed on the way, the secluded road to the stream, the stream and, finally, the spring itself. The limo driver said it was his favorite trip ever, and Barb loved it.
