If you want to meet other VRers and do some cruising on some scenic Illinois and Iowa roadways, join us, Saturday, October 22.

The tentative schedule:
* 8:45a ... meet at Meijer/Menards, NE corner of Randall & Bose Rds, Elgin IL
* 9a ... depart for Galena IL, via RT 20 W (scenic)
* noonish ... arrive in Galena for lunch/gas stop (lunch tentatively at Culver's) ... perhaps stop at the lookout tower
* 2pmish ... leave Galena, taking RT 20 W over to Dubuque IA
* Follow scenic RT 52 S
* Cross back over into IL at I-80
* 5pmish (or earlier) ... arrive in Moline IL for dinner
* 6:30pmish ... leave Moline, taking scenic RT 84 N back to RT 20 (OR) find a local cruise, stay overnight somewhere & head north Sunday morning

I'm extending this invitation to several groups. If people wish, we could arrange "carpools" to have company and save some money on gas. If you plan to attend, be sure to let me know so I can share my cell ph# with you so we can be in touch.

So....is anyone interested?

If you want to join us for only part of the trip, that is fine ... participating in the entire trip is not mandatory ;).

That would be fun, but we can't. Working part-time for a local animal clinic (in the kennel - dog & cat janitor/baby sitter) which is primarily Friday - Monday. That would be a good outing though. Have a good time.

Thats my birthday, party for me, hopefully we'll be in L.A. for surgery!!

Wise,

I'm sorry that you and your wife won't be able to join us :(. I'm counting on it being a tremendously fun outing ... with lots of nice scenery!

Angela,

Happy early Birthday!!! Good luck with the surgery issues...thoughts/prayers coming your family's way....

I'd love to go...........

I'd love to go...........

if you'd just change those places to Dallas, TX; Arlington, TX, etc. ...........sigh! I'm afraid we've done our globe trotting - for this year anyway. Guess I'll have to take my road trips vicariously through you. Glad you are getting to go on a jaunt. Enjoy! Many hugs. J.

Janet,

You've no idea how much I would absolutely love to "move" this to TX ... or TN ... or NC, for that matter.

*sighs*

But, alas, I'm still stuck here for now :(.

And, that is OK if you want to live your road trips vicariously through me ;).

This is still about 2 weeks away, but an update:

I'm currently looking at eating places in the Moline area. Cheddars in Davenport IA is a possibility ... or somewhere in Moline. Since lunch is tentatively at Culver's (more or less a "fast food" place), I figured we could eat dinner at a "sit down" establishment. So, if you have any suggestions for Davenport IA or Moline IL ... share them with me.

Remember, if gas prices are giving you pause, we can always figure out some "carpools" of sorts so people can share gas expenses...and have some company along the travels as well. And, as I mentioned before, you don't have to join us for the entire event/cruise ... you can join us for a meal ... or drive part of the way with us ... or a combination of both....

And, yes, this will be rain or shine ... you do not have to drive an older car to participate :).

Some additional notes ...

Received a suggestion to stop at the Mississippi Palasads Park at Sabula (Iowa side) to take some pictures of the cars ... hopefully with fall colors in the background....

Dinner in the Davenport/Moline (Quad Cities) area might be at Cheddars or Bud's Skyline Inn....

And, depending on time and interest, we might stop at the John Deere place/museum in the Quad Cities area....

Hope you consider joining us....

And just what's wrong with Minnesota Mr.? I never see MN on your list....Best place in the world ya know. Well, except for during -1000 degree winters, and whenever the Minnesota Vikings decide to have some sex party on some boat on Lake Minnetonka. Otherwise, it's just perfect! ;)

*chuckles*

Nothing is wrong with MN ... I just haven't had a chance to get up there yet ;). Though, I do not want to come up during the winter...aye.

VR's weekycat is up that way, too.... AND...one of my Dad's brothers and his family lives in MN ... my parents and sis and her hubby plan to go up to MN in November to visit them. I'm not sure if I'll be able to tag along that trip or not.... We'll see....

Now, about those sex parties ... maybe I need to participate and/or host one ... he he he ;).

I grew up in Rochester MN, and my entire family still lives there. We made it back there in April and again in July this year. It was SO hot in July, I thought we were going to die. April weather was perfect. I will probably spend a couple of weeks out there over the summer next year, since my husband will be on his westpac cruise. I'll have to bring my pup, though. Rochester was nice when I was young, but now it's too populated. When Kevin retires we are moving to some place around roch, close enough to visit family, but far enough that they can't just stop in whenever. where about do you live?

I live just Southwest of the twin cities in Shakopee. (you know where Valley Fair and Mystic Lake Casino is.) I was just in Rochester in May to go Mayo and I'll tell you what my impression was...Rochester is actually a pretty cool city, but Rochester is one thing, and thats Mayo. EVERYTHING in Rochester revolves around Mayo. Most people you meet out and about aren't even from Rochester, they're all there for Mayo.

It does get quite hot here in the summer, hot and humid. Especially this summer has been bad. The best time here in my opinion is fall and spring. Weather always sneaks up on you here too, it can never gradually go from one season to the next. It has to be 90 degrees one day, then 50 degrees the next. Oh well, guess us Minnesotans just have to put up with it. I don't think I could ever live anywhere else, just something about Minnesota.

Have you heard about it in the news, or just us Minnesotans? I don't think you would have wanted to be part of this sex cruise. There were 2 boats with 17 MN Vikings players on it and a total of 90 people. The captains ended up turning back after only 40 mins due to all the sex, naked people, toys, prostitution...and one employee on board contacted the police saying she feared for her life. We get rid of Moss because we don't like his attitude and what happens? I bet everyone here thinks Moss was a saint by now. Ahh, oh well, there goes our new football stadium....

Cort,
The weather down here is beautiful, and it is suppose to be a gorgeous week-end. I hope your weather cooperates next week-end. :)

Mary,

Thank you :). I sure hope it is nice weather, too! It is gorgeous here this weekend ... sunshine gallore. I suspect I'm going to wish I had planned this for October 15. BUT...I waited until October 22 because my fellow administrator for our IL MC group is on his honeymoon [I was at his wedding last weekend in central IL] and won't be back until late Saturday night ... so, in order for him and his wife to join us, I had to schedule it for October 22....

carista,

No, you are probably right ... I wouldn't have wanted to be a part of that particular party...he hehe. I've heard about it on the news, too....the Bears/Vikings game shall be interesting this weekend...that is, to see/hear if that party is mentioned during the telecast or on the radio broadcast....

*sighs*

No...I think my own party would be just for 2 people ... me'n'the lucky female ;). He he he

BTW, my Dad's brother and his family live in the Elk River area...and were formerly from Minnetonka....

Minnesota

Minnesota

Carisita---We are also in Minnesota....WAY up North on the Iron Range, hubby is a native Ranger :) . I was born and raised in Wayzata. We will agree that Rochester is all about Mayo, but they sure do have good places to eat!

Weather was tough up here this summer too. No rain, very hot....fewer mosquitos tough!

Would love to attend a valve replacement get together sometime. Hoping on maybe attending the 2006 reunion!

My husband goes to the Iron Range all the time (at least I think it's the same place) Is that where a lot of people go to four wheel? I've been there once, and my husband usually goes 2-3 times every summer to four wheel in his jeep. It's his favorite hobby and he loves it there.

Cort,
I have nooo doubt in my mind the nice Minnetonka boat party will be mentioned at the next game. As if it's not bad enough that we SUCK this year, they have to make sure to embarrass us also.

4 wheeling....

4 wheeling....

Oh yeah....lots of 4 wheeling! We have 2 ATVs.... and the Jeep is my work car, lol. Do you know where he goes? The is one ATV 'park' in Gilbert, and then lots of rural trails Virginia, Eveleth, Hibbing, Aurora are in the quad cities.

Carista,

I happened to be listening to a couple radio shows (for the Chicago Bears) as I was driving my cars today and the general "wonderings" seems to be if the events of last week will adversely affect the Vikings in the game Sunday.

If they are professionals, it shouldn't affect their on-field play. But, according to a couple reports anyway, the owner of the Vikings is considering disciplinary action, but seems to have his hands tied because if he disciplines too much, he won't be able to field a team. Course, I've no idea if that is true...just going by what people have been hearing and talking about on the radio....

Tomorrow's Bears/Vikings game will be interesting ;).
