post surgery ,i was put on coumadin,vasotec and metoprolol. never been on any of them. my surgery was 5-27. for about a week,i have zero apetite and sometimes feel queasy. nothing tastes right. i also am very short of breath again! i also get horrible abdominal cramps and diarrhea. any ideas on my new meds? thanks! trish

All I can say is that if your short of breath see your doctor. This nothing you want to "wait and see what happens" kind of thing.
Are eating anything when you take your meds? Some meds may give you a queasy tummy if taken on a empty stomach.

If you're very short of breath AGAIN, call your cardio or surgeon ASAP. Leave a message with answering service with all your symptoms. You should hear back quickly. If not, call again.

Your symptoms could be due to your Rxes & healing, but again, they might not.

When in doubt, check it out.

4 years ago, a vr.com member who had surgery in Feb. 2004 called me about her post-op symptoms (nausea, anorexia, shortness of breath). I told her to call her surgeon (same one who did mine). She was told to go to the ER. She was admitted for several days. She had pleural effusion and they removed 1,000cc of fluid.

Can't really add anything here. If your short of breath, you may be retaining fluid, so get checked out asap. The Metoprolol is most likely your stomach aggitator.

In my husband's case, three weeks post-OHS the surgeon had him on Lisinopril (ACE inhibitor) Coreg (beta blocker), lasix and warfarin and he had SOB that really concerned his surgeon and cardiologist. But we noticed that the SOB was really noticeable within an hour of taking the Lisinopril and would disappear as the Lisinopril left his system. I thought it was due to really low BP (shortness of breath is a common side effect). His BP was hovering around 70/50. When the surgeon heard that, he took Carl off the Lisinopril and called back in three days to see how he was doing. The SOB had disappeared in that short time. He still has low BP due to the Coreg (85-90/60) but no SOB. If you have a BP monitor, see if there is a correlation between BP and your shortness of breath.

As for your lack of appetite. This is very common in people who undergo bypass surgery. Not sure why - Carl had no appetite for about 5 weeks post-surgery and for some reason, couldn't stand the taste of chicken. That's basically all resolved itself by now.
