‎Hi
My mother had a mitral mechanical valve replacement 2 1/2 years ago. She told me that recently she was relaxed and lying on her stomach and then sat up and the valve noise became much louder than usual and of course it scared her. She will be going to the Doctor soon but I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge to the reasons why it would get louder and then go back to the regular ticking or if anyone else has had this type of experience and this is normal. Any information would be greatly appreciated as it scared us and we are waiting for the appointment.
Thanks

Hello and welcome !
Your Mom is wise to get checked out even if it is only to ease her nerves.
Mine is a mech aortic valve and it does this kind of stuff often depending on how I am laying, leaning, etc. It annoys me, but my doc always says that it sounds great to him. ;)

Strangely enough the same kind of thing happened to me the other night. I just slightly changed my position.
As Bina has said, your mother is wise to get it checked out.

And if your mom is the kind to enjoy a joke, you could always tell her "Don't worry about it when you hear it. The time to worry is if you don't hear it any more. . . "

Sometimes I feel strange when I sit on my foot on the ground, I feel more louder valve noise like striking iron rods, but my cardiac surgeon says its normal, they explained that in some positions at times we become more conscious to our heart sounds or it reaches our ears more clearly that creates strange effect on mind, so, nothing to be worried about. Blue Starr, I feel nothing to be worried about but its always better to consult with your doctor in case of any doubt or unusual happening. Many Blessings to you and your mom.
