I am early in my warfarin regime, and since I left the hospital a week ago, I have had almost daily house visits by nurses with portable PTINR machines. They then call the surgeon's office with the results so they can adjust the warfarin. After a couple of days at 7.5 mg., and a couple of days at 10mg., then one day at 15 mg., I had a solid line of INRs of 1.6, with no observable movement. The nurse practitioner at the surgeon's office got somewhat concerned, so had me come in to have blood drawn, and the hospital lab came up with an INR of 2.1, on the same day as one of the portables was still reading 1.6. I am due to see the surgeon this coming Tuesday, so they are leaving me on 10 mg. daily until then.
I thought I had seen an old thread before my surgery, which talked about the portable machines vs. drawn blood for labs, but couldn't find it. How does this gibe with everyone's experience? Are there frequently/occasionally discrepancies of this sort? I would not that there were 4 different portable machines with consistent results, all lower than the lab test.
