They released a update that is causing all sorts of problems just like AVG did a while back.

Based on anecdotes, the glitch appears to be caused when older VirusScan engines install DAT 5664, which McAfee seems to have pushed out in the past 24 hours. Affected systems then begin identifying a wide variety of legitimate - and frequently crucial - system files as malware. Files belonging to Microsoft Internet Explorer, drivers for Compaq computers, and even the McAfee-associated McScript.exe were being identified as a trojan called PWS!hv.aq, according to the posts and interviews.

Me gots XP, and I'll mention Avast to the Man when he gets home.
I'm a bit computer challenged (as you know).
Thanks!

For some reason, the latest version of AVG wants to take forever creating icons for set up programs and zipped set ups. It's like it takes way too much time scanning each one and up to 4 minutes to display the icons. I can't have that.

I've used FREE AVG for many years. Never once been infected from a virus.

Did have a big problem couple years ago right after receiving an update from AVG.
Online I found the fix.... it was only effecting W-XP that hadn't installed SP-1 updates.
The fix.... Uninstall AVG.
Install at least SP-1.
Reinstall AVG. Problem fixed.

I'd never had the problem if I been installing XP updates. But when the Service Packs first came out, they caused some problems so I never got back to installing them.

The other day after I installed my new hard drive I also installed all XP updates! ;)

Ross, I agree, the new AVG is slow scanning. So I set up the scan to do when I go to bed and for the computer to shut down when it finishes.

Recently bought wife and granddaughter new laptops. First thing I did was uninstall Norton on both and install AVG!
