and mom is crazy! Last week he tested at 3.7, nice. But today we decided since he had a pre cath visit we would test the accuracy of the home machine. Everyone at the the clinic was so sure the strip was bad. Well it wasn't and he is too high now at 5 mgs daily, which is his regular dose.

So he is off coumadin until he tests under 4. Butttttttttt he is supposed to be starting Lovenox Friday... instead of admission for heparin, he is going to try to do the lovenox 2 days before and after...........

And the scary part is he started stomach pain this morning with nausea, coincidence?

what a mess, again.

Geesh, Jeanne - I'd have stomach pain with nausea if I had to have a cath and do lovenox (still a great big wimp, and my stomach acts up with stress). But seriously, I always have some stomach pain when my inr is up over @ 4.5. Don't know if this makes sense, but I do.

Give that kid some broccoli and coleslaw.

I am concerned about the pain and nausea because that is a classical, Matt's bleeing sign.......... but since he did not have anything done, they said it should not be from an internal bleed.... Matt never gets pain when his value is high.

I just sent my hubby to the store! We ae having broccoli and sausage tonight! lol and lot's of salad. Matt won't eat coleslaw...

He is off Coumadin until he tests under 4 - but when is the next test? This is a sticky wicket. If he wasn't having a cath done, it would be easier. But now you're trying to get his INR down, but not too far down, and he's going to be stopping it and doing Lovenox for the cath anyway. You should be having stomach pains.

With a 7.5, his INR should be below 4 on Sunday - or that's my guess. I believe Al has said that holding Coumadin for 2 days will drop the INR by 1/2 most often.

The real question is - why is he going all over the place?

Does he have the daily pill box, so he's sure if he has or hasn't taken his Coumadin? Could he have accidentally doubled the dose? Taking it in the dark etc. (I've almost done that several times.) Stress can do wacky things to the INR. OTC drugs of any kind?

From what i know the poor kid has alwasy had trouble w/ his going all over the place. it's another one of the reason's we have to dye our pretty hair, Lyn

**he has to test daily

**I have an instant headache! Maybe instead of coumadin, I should ask them to start the Lovenox now????

**sigh... I am so tired of this.

**I want to know... he takes his pills faithfully since home.

He has the daily pill box. Did not double up. Did not miss. No OTC, he can't take any of it.

Maybe stress, but he is fine with this. It's his life. To him it is normal.

Okay - what TV shows does he watch?  Sorry this is such a puzzle. It may be little consolation - but I think just about all of us would rather be too high than too low.

I want to put this kid in a holding cell and dose him and see what I come up with!

whats your address???? :)

I am worried that they are finally going to just pull him and do Lovenox. That will never work since it took me days to convince him to do the belly shots so he does not need to be admitted..

I thought that too... the nurse called to say keep him in tonight and tomorrow

No coumadin tonight? I think I would let him go back to one tomorrow and test Sunday..NOT tomorrow..Give it a day..and see where it is...and send Hubby back to store for V8 juice..Lots of Vit K in a can.. I bet missing one dose tonight will have him back down to probably in the 4's by sunday...and lots of Vit K over the weekend..Bonnie

The answer to fluctuating INRs almost always lies in something either going in (or not going in) to the person's mouth.
