Based on what I could hear, I know there was a pack of coyotes coming up the mountain. But, I never saw them. Coyotes aren't really dangerous-and it would have made a great picture-but I wasn't quite ready to head into the fog to find them.

Cool pic Dennis. I wish I had your talent. All I can manage to do is cut off body parts!

Don't go hunting coyotes in the fog though. Coyotes aren't dangerous to humans in most situations, but you do need to watch your cats, dogs and small children. We have coyotes in the woods behind our neighborhood, and the sound they make when they have accomplished a kill is kind of frightening. My good friend who lives on a mountain in Santa Fe looked out her window one evening to see three surrounding her dog - a lab mix, so pretty big. One was distracting her in the front, while the other two were moving in from behind. My friend ran out yelling and they ran off, but a few minutes later probably would have resulted in a different ending.

Great picture Dennis as always, your spoiling us
Don't STOP the share of them

We have coyotes and they are usually busy stealing smaller livestock so they don't come near houses.
Most farmers have a donkey, llama, or maremma dog to protect their sheep, goats, etc.
I love pics with fog.....so mysterious.

Dennis,

I had my close encounter with Coyotes once when deer hunting. I got to my tree stand way before daybreak. It was right around 30 degrees and the rungs on the ladder to the stand were covered in ice. I tried twice to climb up but wisely gave up. I decided to just make a blind on the ground under the stand.

Just about 40 minutes before sunrise I heard a pack of Coyotes yelp off to my left. I then heard another pack answer back on my RIGHT!!! GULP!!! They kept talking to each other, getting closer and closer to where I was. They say Coyotes will NOT bother humans, but I really didn?t hanker on putting that theory to test. The pack on my left (upwind from where I was) got within 50 yards or so, just inside the tree line. The other pack (on my downwind side) had gone silent. GULP AGAIN!!! I finally decided that to heck with deer that morning and started coughing REAL LOUD and stomping my feet. Talk about the hair on the back of your neck standing on END!!!! After daybreak I just packed it in.

I?ve only seen them at a distance and they seem to stay away from the houses. Hope it stays that way. May your pictures of them be by telephoto lens!!!!

Love your pictures.

Danny
