Joe is going into the hospital tomorrow for a lung biopsy. It will probably be done on Friday, if his INR is at the right level.

They are trying to find out what is causing his progressive lung fibrosis.

It will be a bronchoscopy type of biopsy, not an open lung biopsy.

Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

I will definitely be keeping Joe in my prayers. I will pray that everything goes smoothly and that the desired results and reports are received.

Yes, of course he will be in my prayers as well. I haven't had a repeat Cat Scan of my chest in about 2 1/2 years and at that time the fibrosis was mostly in my middle and upper lobe on the right side and was stable. The concensus opinion was it was scarring from having had the heartport procedure through the right chest. I hope all goes well for Joe and that the results are something that can be worked with to improve Joe's health. You both come to my mind so very often because of all you have been through together and at those times I whisper a prayer for you....tonight it will be more than whispers though.

Absolutely - Joe (and you) have my prayers and good wishes. Praying all goes well and they find out something that is easily fixed.
Godspeed.

Nancy,
You both are in my prayers.
My husband assists with 1-2 bronchoscopies each day, and although I know they're not fun, they seem to be much better than the alternative. I hope you get the best possible answer to your question.

Nancy, I'm so sorry to see that you and Joe are faced with another challenge! I certainly will pray for you both.

Was Joe ever placed on Amiodarone? Lung fibrosis is one of the awful and irreversible side effects of that drug, the one that really scared me while I was on it.

I've had both, bronchoscopy biopsies and open lung. As long as they don't get to "snip happy" he should be fine. They get inside me and tend to snip everything they see and I end up in serious trouble.

You both will be in my prayers, even though I think mine are being ignored for some reason.

Wayne and I will be walking with you as well. With candles and prayers.

Joe was never on Amiodarone. He came close, but I put my foot down and stopped that conversation as it came out of his attending cardiologist's mouth. He was then in a hospital which believed in putting everyone who had afib on Amiodarone without hesitation. They had posters for it plastered all over the cardiology floor.

Fortunately, thanks to Vr.com and some family friends who had adverse reactions to Amiodarone, I knew better.

I thought he might have autoimmune disease, but the initial tests for scleroderma and related things came back negative.

They are looking for possible unusual infections, like a smoldering fungal infection, etc.

The only positive test was a moderately high sed rate, which does not specify what is causing it. He's had that in the past.
