OK Guys I'm off on yet another Du/race! Much like Don Quixote, I continue to pursue the dream! This time ,after a run and bike I get to run a 5k ON A BEACH!!! All you runners out there: SAND!!! Need less to say I expect to break all known records in my age group for slowness and HAVING FUN! The day after I get to attend a friends Indian wedding which I understand lasts longer than the Iron Man Tri. Two events requiring different skill levels in one weekend!! I hope I live to see Monday!

I'll do sand for 50-100 yards to get from the water to the bike corral, but 5K? Yup, you're officially nuts ;) . I personally wouldn't do it, but I respect your masochism.

Have a great race!

Hey Laura,
I was just going to ask when your next race would be. Good luck. And have fun! 5k on sand????

Looking forward to the race report on Monday, well I guess we can give you till tuesday to recover. :D

Monday for a report? Are you kidding??? To be fair the 5k was mostly on hard sand by the water, but my calves were screaming! It was a beautiful day today in NJ and the race was one I had done last year. It's always fun to see my friends and all the various shapes, sizes and ages of athletes that come out for these events. There was even an 11 year old there! (yes he beat me as did the 68 year old guy and just about everyone else) It was a good race, but on the first run the duathletes went off like a shot and there was no way I could keep my heart rate where it had to be and keep up anywhere near them so there was lots of daylight between us. The bike was great and I survived the second run. I got a headache a few hours after because I wasn't as good at hydrating pre race this time as I should have been, But, I feel better now after a nap and lots of drinking and eating most of the day.
I think this will be my last race this season. I am really looking forward to TRAINING all fall and winter and taking the time to build back up. Now that I have beaten the demons in my head that worried me about not be able to do these things again, I can take my time and do it really right. You guys were SO VALUABLE in this whole process. I am so grateful I found this sight and all of you. I look forward to all the future discussions and reports from my valaver friends!
Laura
Oh yea I'll let you know how I survive the 10 hour Indian wedding tomorrow!

I know you are online, since you have waved the recovery period I am expecting a detailed report of the weekends escapades. :D

Hey: I just posted a thread about your arm! My details are sparse about the race. It was hotter than I hoped for and I wasn't careful about hydrating so I got a headache and my heart rate took almost 1/2 hour to drop below 95. NEVER again will I be careless about hydrating before the race. I was thirsty the whole race and kept drinking, but it was kinda too late. I took 7 minutes off my time from the last race of the same distance,so that's good. I am very happy to stop competing this season (unless I change my mind about a kyak, bike, run at the end of Sept.) I need to put lots of base training in and build back up.
Now it's your turn. What's up? I've been reading all your posts.

OOPs, Mtn Biker read your other arm post.. I just returned rom the wedding and I'm in a curry haze. It was a blast incase you've never been to an Indian wedding,it's long but boy can everybody dance at the party;no matter how old they are. I'm pooped and I can't wait to go to sleep!

That's doggone GREAT! We've got a lot of active people at VR - but we need a bona fide speed daemon.

I think you should continue that rate of improvement for a few more races and claim the title. ;)

Glad to hear you continue to do so well.

congratulations on getting the 'job' done. We have got so many of our members in the running mode - which goes to show there IS life after surgery. Keep on keepin on - and please tell us about the Indian wedding.

I went to one years ago - but it was short, but authentic, I think.

Wedding? Sleep? Am I missing something here?

Ross/hensylee: I attended a friends wedding, not got married myself! The wedding was great! Everyone was spectacular in jeweled saris and tunics. The groom rode up on a white horse to this rather beautiful restuarant and had his whole family dancing and singing in front of him. The women in the bride's family met them and continued the celebration until the bride came out. The actual ceremony was in doors and lasted about 2 hours, but you could get up and talk and there were refreshments served during the ceremony. Everone went home or to the hotel to change into something even fancier(!) and then the party was on! Drumming, music, dancing, a relative performing a dance holding flames: WOW! I was still tired from the race the day before so I left at a decent hour. I heard it went on until 4 am. Phew! What a weekend!

Laura - was the wedding Indian as in the country (not Native American right?). Small world - when I was in the hospital, across the way from me was a famous Indian politician and head of the country's Olympic Committee. We were operated at the same time for the same thing and became great friends. We hope to visit him and his family down the road. Race went ok?
