One doctor I've been going to is saying he wants to start regulating my cholesterol shortly. I had it tested and have total cholesterol of around 240 - high. Anybody have suggestions on a good diet/nutritional supplement program to lower cholesterol? I don't want to take the statin type cholesterl meds as I've heard they have bad side effects. Anyone have good luck with the 'Mediterraean diet?" With niacin?

Jim,
My wife has tried Niacin and the Med diet without too much success.
She is horribly allergic to any of the statin drugs and beleive me she has tried them all.
Her doctor who is an MD at our local hospital is also a cholestorel expert.
He also deals with alternative medications.
He has her taking Zetia and Tricor together as a combination.
These are both non-statin drugs usually used in conjunction with a statin drug.
She has made some amazing progress in a relatively short time.
In less than three months it went from 270+ down to 207.
Her triglycerides went from 768 down to 261 in the same time frame.
She is also using a lo-carb diet however nothing as severe as the Atkins diet.
