I have generally made good progress since my AVR 5 weeks ago. i have been walking good distances and even made it to the gym today (mainly doing some light cardio work).

The last few evenings I have been getting some sharp pains in my left side in the lower rib cage area and wonder if anyone else has come across this. I did get the doctor to have a listen and he reckoned there were no issues with my chest or lungs.

Guess it may be one of those strange aches and pains which can rear up post op!

I would take it a little easier and see what happens. I personally don't believe in strange aches and pains; I believe there's generally a cause--especially only 5 weeks out.

I have to agree with Mary here as at five weeks the ribs are falling back in place after a rib spreader anoyed the #$%$#$% out of them so take a little easier with the new valve in place you have PLENTY of time to push the body

I agree with Mary. My first thought, when you describe the area, was maybe fluid in the sac around your lung on that side (plueral fluid) if itwasn't sore muscles. So glad you got checked. Maybe try some heat to see if that helps. IF it dosn't get better soon be sure to call the docotr again, maybe they would do an echo or something just to check things out
