Much to my shock, I tested today and it's 1.9  (tested twice to make sure it wasn't a mistake). 2 weeks ago it was 3.3, a week before that it was 3.1. A week before that it was 4.4. That was when I lowered my dose from 65 to 63. Which isn't much of a bump down. I can't think of anything different in the last 2 weeks to account for such a drop. No new vitamins, no change in eating habits. I expected it to be high since I've been too busy with work to get in my 4 weekly workouts.

Thoughts?

Al's chart (2.5 - 3.5 range) says to give an additional dose and increase 10 to 20%.

I probably won't hear back from the doctor until later today. Should I take some additional Coumadin now? As you can tell, I'm a bit stunned. Didn't really expect it to be so low. When I had my 6 mo. check with my card, her machine tested the same as mine. So machine error doesn't sound likely.

Talked to card. She wants me to stay on same dose and test Friday. I'm afraid I'll be even lower, since 2 weeks ago I was 3.3.

It's got to be all the excercising then. I'd bump back to 65 and stay there, then test in 4 days to see where you are.

So sorry Karlynn. I usually hesitate to change my dose for one or two high readings. What works best for a 4.5, let's say. I would subtract 1mg from my daily dose for one day. Retest in 2-3 days. Works like a charm. Then I continue to test weekly to make sure I am not spiking. From what I recall you take a good amount of Coumadin. Fast to drop....and even longer to come up. For a reading that low they tell me to take 9 or 10 mg for one day. Resume regular dose, etc.

Keep us posted. Have a Happy Thanksgiving :)

mine stayed too low

mine stayed too low

1.4-1.9 for almost 3 weeks we never found out why, but they threw me into the hospital on a 2 day heparin drip... I was not happy there.....

Do not feel so bad, mine keeps going up and down. I walk almost everyday and try to by consistant in my diet. So it could be anything. Keep hanging in there and it will finally balance out. Keep the faith.
