I am entering this message on behalf of Jeff Ring, who had his valve replacement surgery at Kaiser in San Francisco yesterday (Tuesday, June 10, 2003). I saw him last Wednesday, at which time he was unsure what type of valves he would be getting: mechanical, pig, or bovine. I got an email from him over the weekend implying he had decided to go with the mechanical valves in spite of the daily blood thinners and all that goes along with that decision. (He said the next time I see him he would be the $70K bionic man :D )

Sadly, I did not get a chance to speak with him before he went into surgery, though my thoughts were with him. He did send me an email asking me to post a message to this message board, though, letting everyone know how he was doing after his surgery.

I feel so delinquent for not letting him know that I would, but I have two daughters who are just finishing school for the year, so here I am at 3:45am on the Wednesday morning after Jeff's surgery, the only time I can find during these busy last few days of the year, happily letting you all know that, while the hospital is not allowed to give out detailed info to non-family members, they did tell me he is doing just fine and should be out of CICU within another 24 hours. Go Jefe!!

I hope to be able to visit him tomorrow and will try to provide another update after that visit.

--Namaste everyone

Thank You Sydney!

Please keep us up to date when the information becomes available. We worry like parents over everyone going through surgery.

It's good to know that he's on his way to recovery.

Welcome to our side of the mountain Jeff. Thanks Sydney for keeping us informed.
