I tried to look up old threads for this, but apparently the word "bra" is too short for the search feature... Go figure.

Anyway, my mom is having shoulder surgery in a few weeks and is worried about getting into and out of a bra. I know that this topic has been discussed here before, since it's difficult to reach behind your back to hook a bra after heart surgery as well, and told her I would look for some options. I didn't really have much of a problem, since I am not very well endowed and could just wear an undershirt and be okay. I did suggest a front hooking bra (she's ordered one) and she's also going to try some sports bras that she has. But the problem is that she won't really be able to move her left shoulder much at all. I figured that those of you who have had pacemaker surgery might have some experience with that.

So, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

"surgical bras"- there were several threads on it. Don't ask.

I found some cheapies before surgery. They are made of lycra, very soft and very stretchy, hook in front. If you go on the net you can find them at Dream Products. They can also send you a catalog. They are around in other places, too but this company has them. They come in white, beige, black and are about $10.

I also use other front hook bras. Your mother can slide the bra over the injured shoulder and put her arm in the other side and she's got it made.

An alternative, of course, is use a regular bra, hook it around your waist, turn it around, and slide it up over the shoulders, injured shoulder first.

As a kinda funny on the bra subject, I have a young friend who was struck/badly injured by a snowmobile recently. She cannot function very well. Her husband is having to help dress her and he can't get the bra thing down pat. He said he spent years learning how to unhook a bra, but he just can't figure out how to HOOK it!

Thanks for the suggestions (I also was able to find some other threads using your suggestion for search term, RCB). I will pass them on to my mother. Hopefully something will work for her. Unfortunately, she lives alone (and I live 4 hours away), so she doesn't have anyone to try and hook her bra for her. She's going to have the son of a family friend staying with her for a little while to help out, but I seriously doubt she'll want him to help her hook her bra. ;)

I'll let you know how things go for her. Thanks again.

I simply cannot pass this thread any longer. The temptation has become exceeding. I prefer women wear NO BRAS! :D

I was wondering how long it would take you to jump in... ;)

I tried offering your suggestion to my mom, but she just wouldn't go for it. Sorry. :D

Mary found that thread for me several weeks ago on the PM. See, Ross......I suspected you would be uncontrollable............

Here are the two sites. Manufacturer is www.goldainc.com Retail is www.adaptations4u.com

Closures are in front, so your mom won't have to worry. There are two types. A surgical vest (which I chose, hasn't arrived yet) and a surgical bra. I'm very large breasted :)p :p Ross!!) so I definitely want the support.

Wishing your mother an easy journey!
