Just to give those that know about my strugles with Coumadin an update...4 weeks ago I was in agonizing right sided pain that radiated around to my back and was vomitting. I was at my cardiologists having my Coumadin tested and to our shock it was at 7.5..I had taken rounds of antibiotics the prior week for dental work. I started getting the pains and vomitting and he sent me to the ER. They did a cat scan and xrays and had me on Morphine for pain and Phenergan for nausea/vomitting. They failed to tell me what showed up on the cat scan. They said they could not figure out what the cause was. I was released after 5 days when my INR/PT was down. I was sent home with Lovenox injections to be done twice a day. After I arrived home I looked at my discharge papers and to my horror I saw the diagnosis code was for right ovarian cyst. This was a shock since nobody told me this may have been the problem. I saw my family Dr the following day and he gave me a copy of the cat scan and their was clearly a right ovarian cyst. Problem is that I've had 2 oopherectomies (ovary/cyst/tubes removed)!!!! I then scheduled an appointment and saw a week later the Dr that removed my ovaries last time in March 2004 which ended in a 3 week hospital stay. Well she could not explain how this keeps occuring. Since I've been on Coumadin I have developed very painful cysts that required numerous hospitalizations. I will be seeing another Dr at the end of the month! well after all that I failed to mention that I was actualy on 2 injections a day of the Lovenox for 2 weeks!!! My stomach looked like something out of a horror movie. I was bruised and had huge knots all over my stomach and the sites were so sore! Will this rollercoaster ever end? Sorry for the long post. Just had to whine abit. My last INR/PT was 2.8..........Thanks again all..

Alicia,

Sorry to hear of the problems. I did not realize one could get ovarian cysts without ovaries????

Also, why did they put you on Lovenex? I am confused by that one. Did they drop your INR thinking the problem was bleeding? This one is just getting past my knowledge.

Hope the cyst problem is something that clears up soon.

I keep telling the urologist that he no longer needs to do a rectal exam on me since he froze out my prostate. But he says that he has had them grow back even after he cut them out. To add insult to injury, the last time he even had a resident physician feel in there to demonstrate what it feels like when someone does not have a prostate.

Hey, Alicia - I am so sorry. I remember your problems from before. I didn't know you could get them back again, either. I don't blame you for being upset and asking questions. This is something I haven't heard of. My prayers are being said for you. Please let us know what happens and how you get along. You have been through so much. It's time you got a break.

To clear things up on this confusing story...When ovaries are removed they should NOT produce cysts but apparently the Dr that did my surgery must have left some ovarian tissue and it was enough to cause normal ovarian function therefore producing cysts. They believe the Coumadin MAY have caused me to bleed into the cysts if my INR/PT was too high at the time and causing the pain and vomitting each time. Since I was not able to hold any meds/food/liquids down my INR/PT dropped very low and they put me on a Heparin drip and this was not enough to raise my levels where they should be so when the sent me home, they had me taking the Lovenox twice a day until I tested and had a score of 2 or above. For some strange reason for 2 darn weeks my level stayed at 1.3 so I had to stay on those dreaded shots! It was aganizing. My stomach was bruised and swollen and huge whelps from the injections. The bruising has gotten better but some of the lumps/hematomas are still swollen.

Hate to tell you this, as long as you have your famale organ, you will continue to have these cysts. They do grow back after the one is removed. Talk with the doctor if you have had a hystricramy(not correct spelling) and still having cysts. Good luck.

Alicia, I KNOW I wouldn't be very happy in your situation. I mean, it is difficult enough having to go through that type of surgery one time let alone having to repeat it! I hope this straightens out for you. I get the eggplant belly when I'm on Lovenox too.....no fun and it takes a long time for the bruising to totally go away.
