 My husband's doctor's office just called & they want to schedule him for a "liver biopsy". He has been passing blood in his stool on & off now for quite some time. He had a colonoscopy done about 5 months ago & things were okay there. They did an MRI last year & said they had notated a "spot" on his liver & the doctor even questioned him if he drank a lot! Neither one of us is a "drinker" so this is very puzzling because the doctor says it looks like "cirrosis" (spelling?)!

Needless to say, I am now so nervous & worried for him because I've read that other organs can be punctured when performing a biopsy?

Does anyone have some information out there? Thanks!

Cirrhosis is not always from drinking. That is only one of a long list of things that can cause it. For instance, Joe had cardiac cirrhosis from CHF.

I will keep your husband in my prayers for a good result.

Thank you Nancy; I appreciate that. I have had this gut feeling for the longest time now, that things aren't right with him since he had part of his sigmoid colon removed in 2006 but my husband's the type that "blows" things off & unfortuately doesn't take his health very seriously. And he procrastinates on going to the doctor until he's on death's door! He worries a lot about me & is always after me on my medications, symptoms, etc., but doesn't worry about what's going on with him!

He's got an appt w/ our doctor on the 12th & I guess they'll schedule him then but he says that he doesn't want anything done until AFTER we come back from our trip! Aye!!

Take care!

I've been reading a lot on the Internet (sometimes that can be BAD but....) & it appears to me that what he may have is NASH (fatty liver). His doctor told him sometime back that he thought that he might have fatty deposits on his liver. My husband also had his gallbladder removed over 20 years ago, & was told to watch his diet, i.e., avoid fatty foods, etc., & for a while, he was doing good w/his diet, but, eventually he fell off the wagon & started his bad eating habits again & here we are!

I cook healthy foods at home but the problem is when he's on the road (he works as a truck driver for a trucking co). He'll grab a hamburger, hot dog, fries, KFC chicken, etc., stuff I don't cook at home!

Thanks for your prayers --- that's all we can do & just wait & see!

Good luck Norma, i hope everything turns out well for your husband. Sending prayers and best wishes.

Sending prayers and best wishes for your husband and for you, Norma. I don't have any technical information, but my wife had suspicious "spots" like you describe turn up and she's been re-checked annually over the past few years and everything has been fine. May just be something that bears watching rather than something bad.

Norma,

I don't have answers for you....

But, I am sending thoughts/prayers to you and your husband.

Here's hoping this is just a scare Norma. :) Perhaps it will stop your man acting like a typical man. He might take his own health more seriously.

Hi Norma,

I have had a liver biopsy. It really is not bad. The risks are so small. I have many friends who have had them and not one had a punture. Chirrosis really just means scarring of the liver. There are 101 reasons for chirrosis. I happen to have a auto immune disease call Primary Bilary Chirrosis (PBC). Please try and not get too worked up. Wait and see what the doctors say. I would though see a gastronologist or liver specialist. They are the ones that are really up on things.

If I can help, please feel free

Norma, feel badly for you and your husband right now. I hope everthing goes okay for him. Please keep us all posted (me) posted?
I have to go to LC one day next week. Is there anything I can do to help out?

Health Food

Geez...I thought hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, and stuff like KFC were health foods! Did you guys know that some of this typical man stuff can be fixed when they replace your aortic valve. Just make sure to request the St. Jude model which has the dancing chip and GPS chip options. The GPS option is great; you never have to worry about needing to ask directions to any destination because it won't let you get lost.

On a more serious note, I hope you husband's upcoming test has a positive outcome. We lost my mother-in-law several years ago due to liver issues related to a bout with Hepititis Type B. Good luck!
