I just wanted to share some sad news in the lesson mode of "you never know when your last day will be". This past Sunday a group of local cyclists were out for a ride on a road they use all the time because it was considered safe. Unfortunately on Sunday they were destined to share the road with a low-life who was driving, apparently impaired (the alcohol test has not been released yet), and on a suspended license. He lost control of his van and plowed into the group of bikes, killing two of the riders. One is a person I knew. She was 51, mother of 2 and planning her 28th wedding anniversary to go cycling through Tuscany.

Here is the link to Amy's story (and, of course, the others with her):

I ask for your prayers for her family but I also ask you to remember how very precious life is and how quickly it can be pulled from us. I think, even with our histories, we can forget sometimes.

Thanks for listening.

How very sad- sending our prayers and sympathy and appreciate the sentiment- life should be lived every day as if it is our last. How unfortunate that we often forget that!

Hi Gee

Boy are you absolutely right on!!! One of my best friends was diagnosed a malignant melanoma yesterday and is at the surgical oncologist as we speak. The last dr. she saw for it told her it was a birthmark and not to worry too much about it. She moved from LI in February and went to PA to a new Dr. for just general stuff.....he took one look at it, sent her to a surgeon who removed it. When it came back malignant, they sent her to the oncologist.

Please, everyone, check those "moles" "sunspots" and birthmarks......you can't be too careful.

We only have 3 policemen..they try to do their best.but, with thousands of tourist in town for tubing, ect. hard for them to watch everyone. bonnie

Yes, Gina, you are right -

Yes, Gina, you are right -

tomorrow is not a guarantee for anyone (on this planet) - we are just passing through. Such a sad happening - for all involved.

There is a great song by James Taylor (I thought it was appropriate for this thread) - the melody is lovely also - wish I could put a link on for y'all to hear the song, but don't know how.

"The Secret O' Life"

The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time
Any fool can do it
There aint nothing to it
Nobody knows how we got to
The top of the hill
But since we're on our way down
We might as well enjoy the ride

The secret of love is in opening up your heart
Its okay to feel afraid
But dont let that stand in your way
cause anyone knows that love is the only road
And since were only here for a while
Might as well show some style
Give us a smile

Isnt it a lovely ride
Sliding down
Gliding down
Try not to try too hard
Its just a lovely ride

Now the thing about time is that time
Isnt really real
Its just your point of view
How does it feel for you
Einstein said he could never understand it all
Planets spinning through space
The smile upon your face
Welcome to the human race

Some kind of lovely ride
Ill be sliding down
Ill be gliding down
Try not to try too hard
Its just a lovely ride

Isnt it a lovely ride
Sliding down
Gliding down
Try not to try too hard
Its just a lovely ride

Now the secret of life is enjoying the passage of time

Very sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with the families during this time.

The little piece of crap that did it needs the death penalty at least!

I agree but, unfortunately, it seems like people like him end up never getting what they deserve. I would almost like to see him have to perform slave labor for the families for the rest of his life so he can live the misery he caused. Death would almost be too easy.

Gina,
I'm so sorry and it so senseless. Last fall, a drunk driver hit two drs. on bikes, killing one of them not more than ten miles from my house. The driver got 7 years. Several months ago, a 45 year old mother of twins and avid jogger was run down by a "reckless" driver in broad daylight about 3 miles from my house. The guy had just spent 5 years in jail for manslaughter for running down another runner in similar circumstances. All they can charge him with is manslaughter.

Life is precious and fragile!

That is really sad. I am so sorry for the families.

My skin dr told me not worry if it's just brown - if it has color then get it checked. The moment I had a spot that was dark purple and black, I knew what it was. It was, but was removed years ago.

This happens all too often. So sorry for the families involved.

A song I find inspirational is one Tim McGraw recorded when he found out his father, former major league pitcher Tug McGraw, had an inoperable brain tumor. "Live Like You Are Dying." The message being that life is precious and live each day to the fullest because we never know how many days or years we have on this Earth....

I am not excusing what the

I am not excusing what the

driver of the car did but...

A little old lady hit my 4-year-old brother in 1969 and killed him. He was getting his bike up over a curb. She had cataracts and could not see well. She was going too fast in town and came up over a hill and that was it.

There are ALL kinds of reasons for accidents with cars and bicyclists and pedestrians.

I, too, have almost made some dumb mistakes while driving my car. I remember years ago, I was driving a country road here in Colorado from Denver to Greeley - it was a country road then - not any more - so many people out here now. Anyway, there was a stoplight. It turned yellow about a (1/4) mile before I got to it - I chose to "gun it" - well when I went through the red light at God knows what speed, there was a group of teenagers at the crossing and they were yelling "oooohhh - she ran a red light!!" Mind you there were no other cars around - it was around midnight - I didn't think there was a soul in sight.

I ALWAYS think back to that - by the grace of God I didn't kill 3-4 people with my car. That really taught me a lesson.

As for drunk drivers - well - they are alcoholics usually - their thinking is impaired because they are drunk. It is people around them who should be taking away their keys and getting them help.

Life is just downright tragic a lot of the time.

So it's not his fault, it's his disease. Other people didn't take his keys away so they are partly to blame. Oh bull!

He is a lowlife. He is the one that opened the alcohol, he is the one that got in the car with a suspended license, he is the murderer of those innocent people.

This is that sickening mentality that is sweeping the country of "it's not his fault", nothing is anyones fault anymore right? He does not have the right to live in society. It was his choices that led to the death of innocent people.

He broke how may laws to murder these people??

You make very good points and I TOTALLY agree with many of your statements, but I don't think this person got up that morning and said, "I am going to kill two people." This was not truly first degree murder.

I just always think in these circumstances of accidental deaths - "there, but for the grace of God, go I."

I don't hardly believe there is a person over 50 who has not had a near-miss in their lifetime while they were driving a car. They say that talking on cell phones is akin to driving drunk. Anyway....I understand your rage, but I just can't feel that way towards this person. He IS sick and has many problems (obviously). He has destroyed two people's lives physically, but he has totally destroyed his own life in every other way.

I feel that anyone who chooses to drive impaired is no different from shooting a gun into the air assuming it won't hit anyone. These are choices people make and choice implies intent.
There are people who feel child pornography is caused by an illness also. Do we, as a society, accept that answer when it comes to people abusing children? If not, then we should not accept the illness concept when it comes to using alcoholism as an excuse for breaking the law.
Yes, I feel sorry for people who are suffering from illnesses. However, they have a responsibility to not impose their illness on society if they feel they should be allowed to remain in society. People with epilepsy are not allowed to drive. Why should alcoholics be allowed to drive? I do not drive when I have a migraine because I know I cannot see properly. People have to take responsibility and that is happening less and less lately.

This is such a touchy

This is such a touchy

issue and I can't/won't argue.

I agree this man should be punished. He did a horrible thing. I just feel bad for him also - that's just me.

:) SLOW DANCE

Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?

Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
You better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Do you run through each day
On the fly?
When you ask How are you?
Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?
You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Ever told your child,
We'll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time
To call and say,"Hi"
You'd better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.
The music won't last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift....
Thrown away.

Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over
