Every now and then some of us develop little red spots in the skin or mucus membranes. ( Rain, Gina, yours truly, etc.)
The generic term for this is purpura (PURP ur ah). It includes
purpuric rash, petechiae, and ecchymosis.
petechiae; ( pa TEEK iya) pinpoint hemorrhages 2 millimeters or less.
purpura ;visible non blanching hemorrhages 3 to 10 millimeters
ecchymosis ;( EKKY mo siss ) over 10 millimeters, in English, a bruise!
Remember if the spots blanch when you press on them they are most likely intact dilated blood vessels not pupura.
