Every now and then some of us develop little red spots in the skin or mucus membranes. ( Rain, Gina, yours truly, etc.)

The generic term for this is purpura (PURP ur ah). It includes
purpuric rash, petechiae, and ecchymosis.
petechiae; ( pa TEEK iya) pinpoint hemorrhages 2 millimeters or less.
purpura ;visible non blanching hemorrhages 3 to 10 millimeters
ecchymosis ;( EKKY mo siss ) over 10 millimeters, in English, a bruise!

Remember if the spots blanch when you press on them they are most likely intact dilated blood vessels not pupura.

Hi Marty, thanks for the terminology.....I do get those too! I think it is when my INR is a little high? But it does not seem to be a problem.

Red Dots that don't go away ???

Red Dots that don't go away ???

Thanks Marty. I have many little red dots that do not go away and have increased over time. All the Doc's say is that I needn't worry about them and the increase may be due to coumadin use.

I wonder if I'll be covered with red dots eventually!!!! Anyone else have these permanent ones???? I may have to change my name to 'dotty'..

Had them for years, Zipper. Not to worry.

From Webster's dictionary - like Marty said

A condition characterized by hemorrhages in the skin and mucous membranes that result in the appearance of purplish spots or patches.

I too have those pesky spots and have had them for years. And, now I seem to be getting more on my upper arms. My doctor, like yours say they are no problem....he even has some on his chest. Or, so she says. He wouldn't let me look! Neither my doctor nor I are on anticoagulation therapy.
Regards, Blanche

Thanks Ann and Blanche. I wonder why some people get them and others don't...like freckles and moles maybe :) My aunt had them and never was on anticoagulants either, Blanche...hmmmm...

Oh well..just one of those things I guess. I still wonder why tho!

Zip:)

I don't know why either, but I am not on any anticoagulants. I do have freckles and moles, tho. I have had these spots for a long, long time and don't seem to have any new ones along the way but the old ones remain. A puzzle.
