Hi all,
We have just applied for life insurance....in the past Steve (the valve recipient) has had to wait for up to 12 months for his health to be evaluated, and always with a good result. However with a new job, new superannuation etc, we had applied for new life insurance cover with a reputable global company.....and been declined! It is frustrating to us that the company is assuming he will need more surgery (without even asking if he will!!) and assuming it will be a major open heart proceedure! Even if he does need another op it would be done by keyhole with minimal risk. Their theory is that had he had it done now in his 40s rather than at 20 he may not need future surgery, therefore they would have covered him!!! Sounds like a heap of **** to me. They make these decisions with no consultation and generalise. Has anyone else had an experience?
I appreciate that they are running a business, but 23 healthy years surely proves a reasonable health record??
Doesn't it feel like we always need to be on our guards waiting and worrying for the next thing!!
Just for the record the same company wanted to charge me an extra 50% fee as in the past I had been treated for stress........any wonder why!!!!
Advice anyone please??!!

I would suggest that you are very likely out of luck.
I've tried several times and have always been told that I am now uninsurable. This despite the fact that I am likely more healthy than many others that apply.

There isn't a lot you can do, unless things are different in the states than they are here. I think insurance companies speak a universal language. They don't care what country you are from, they are there to !@#$ you.

I've always just gotten the maximum available group life insurance offered by the company I happen to be working for. I just assumed with my congenital condition (which was repaired March 17th) I would be denied or charged a ridiculous amount. I'm single, so I really don't have someone relying on my income...but the group insurance is enough that it would pay for my funeral if I passed away. (and maybe a nice catered meal afterwards :D )

Insurance Issues

I haven't tried to buy an individual policy recently, but I'll probably be denied or priced out of the market also. Not so much because of my heart surgery, but I also had spine surgery in Nov. 03 and have hardware in my lumbar spine. They'd probably use that against me somehow also. My best luck with life insurance policies has been through my employer.

We were recently offered a long-term care policy at work with a "no questions" open enrollment coming up in May, and the premiums start at $7.50 per month. Although I'm only 41, I'm probably going to sign up. You never know what the future holds.

My dad had a decent bank account, retirement income, medicaid, and a supplemental medical insurance policy that included prescription coverage. That was fine until he had a debilitating stroke and spent 2 years in a nursing home - and nursing homes aren't generally covered - his entire savings and income went to pay for his care, and when he ran out of money, the state then stepped and paid for his care until he passed away.

Sorry...I got a little long-winded there.....Just something to think about.

We ALL have!!!!! Because they are legally alowed to just arbitrarily choose stats and when and how they apply them, we always will wind up loosing. The government has failed us big time, not protecting us from these greedy sobs. But on the other hand....we fail to stop buying into the medias paranoid view. Oh don't get me started.
