For the last 4-5 days my legs have been in terrible pain, almost growing pains if you will. The pain is getting in the way of me sleeping, and hurt almost all day.

Are these symptoms to a bad AVR, surgery is on Thursday, should I be worried? or is this even a side effect of a bad aortic valve? The pain I would say is at an 8 on a 1-10 scale. I know there can be problems with the legs being swollen and what not and can lead to serious problems. Is this normal or should I not relate this to heart issues?

Thanks.

Do you think you should call our doctors, Ovie? There are a number of possibilities so hard to guess.

How did you make out with your cardio in terms of getting after care post op? Was he able to help you establishing where you will go when you leave the hospital?

Hi Ovie,

For what it's worth I have fairly constant pain in my legs. It's there most of the time and pretty bad. The other thing I get is heavy legs. I feel as if bricks are strapped to my thighs. I remember getting these types of pains pre-surgery when I was seven, again pre-surgery when aged 44 and I'm getting them now. To best describe them they feel like an acute version of what was commonly called growing pains when I was a kid.

I don't know what the leg pain means.

I hope all goes well with your surgery. You will be in my thoughts.

All the best.

Phil.

Check the side effects of any drugs you are on. Hubby had severe muscle pain that began a few weeks to a month after starting prevastatin. They had taken him off the simvistatin he'd been on due to an elevation in his liver enzymes. So now he's on fish oil. It took a week or two after stopping the prevastatin for his pain to subside. His back hurt so bad he could barely get out of a chair.

I'm only on 1 medication which is generic Xanex XR and have been on it for years, never had this happen. I will say I haven't been up and moving alot last few weeks, and tend to curl up in a ball when I sleep which may cause problems.

I see my cardiologist and family doctor on Monday so hopefully I'll have answers then.

Ovie, just saw your post and will pray you get the answers you need on Monday. Having problems with the legs are a scary thing, never know what is means. Mine is fluid buildup and occasionally I get a small wound that is open and my leg does what I call a leak, I patch and watch for redness. Hope you find out something out soon. Take care and hugs for today.
