Have any of you had leg pain pre-op. I can't walk more than 50 feet before my legs begin to ache and feel like I have run a marathon. I asked the surgeon if they would get better after sugery and He said it would help some but it wouldn't take care of all of it. I don't know why I didn't ask him why....but I didn't . Does this sound familiar to any of you? Did your legs get better after surgery? It worries me because I know that I will have to walk after my surgery and if it doesn't get alot better I won't be able to walk much at all.

Thanks,
Carla

Carla - Sometimes certain medications can cause leg pains such as Zocor for Chloresterol. In other cases, the fact you have reduced blood circulation, may be the culprit. I had to stop Zocor pre-surgery because it was causing leg cramps. I'm back on it now and having no problems. My two mile walk before breakfast feels better and better each day -I actually jogged a little today and still have lots of energy left at the end. What a great feeling for a change !

Thanks Chris,
I am taking Lipitor and have been for about 3 years. I don't get leg cramps but my legs go to sleep really fast. I have to change positions often.
Maybe I should ask about the Lipitor. I think I will investigate a lttle.

Carla- Read the data sheet that came with the Lipitor and it should tell you all the possible side-effects. Bear in mind most of these are pretty rare. Try to keep up the walking as much as you can - the better shape you are in, the easier any surgery will be and the faster the recovery. I did my morning walk right up until two days before surgery - I wasn't moving very fast then, but i got it done eventually !!! It gets a lot better after surgery so you have some great things to look forward to. Keep remembering this as the mountain looms in front of you ! Chris

Carla,

I've had leg pain at times due to phlebitis. Bad vascular genes, leaky valves, edema and poor circulation are the culprits.

I wear lovely support hose at times, which helps. I also keep my legs elevated as much as possible, and use heated towels when the pain really speaks to me.

Hang in there,
