Hi all!

Randy had double bypass on 2/14/12. He mentioned today that he is suffering from leg numbness on the lower incisions on both of this legs. Tried one leg for valve graft, no good, switched to the other leg. From your experience is this a temporary or permanant issue?

Thanks!

Vanessa,

I can't answer specifically about leg "donor" sites, but my single bypass was done using the internal mammary artery. The op was a year ago, and I still have a numb spot on my chest where they had to cut into stuff to get the arterial graft. Sounds normal, but probably worth a call to the doc or their nurse practitioner to be sure they don't feel the need to see the wounds to make sure all is well.

My bypass harvest site was a 2" incision at the inside of my knee. I've had no numbness but occassionally it throbs a bit. It passes quickly and is really insignificant but interesting that 8 years later, I still get some throbbing.

Perhaps you might want to call the surgeon just to be sure there's no problem. Better to be safe.

I didn't have a bypass, but I did have numbness around my drain holes, just below my rib cage. It pretty much returned to normal somewhere between 8 months and 12 months out.

When i was 13 they used my goin to attach me to the bypass machine and ever since then my right legs been numb, although i may have gotten it back at some point but went on to have a stroke that left my legs numb; therefore leaving me with no feeling perminatly,
Love Sarah xx

3 by-passes and still have numbness on ankle and chest. I think mine is for ever.

If you have peripheral neuropathy there are Rx for that .......I was and am moderate to severe in legs and feet bcross legs or anklesut that is more attributed to diabetes complicated by surgery.......Vannessa please make sure Randy does NOT cross his legs or ankles

Thanks everyone.... we will call the doc. Im thinking prety normal based on my exp[erience w/ a c-section, but I will update. thanks! Vanessa
