Hi all! I mentioned this matter-of-factly in another thread, but its happened a few more times. Seems at time my upper arm goes completely numb. The only pattern I see is it seems to happen after I get up; its very brief-just about 15 seconds and the feeling returns after rubbing my arm; it only occurs from my shoulder to my elbow; and it isn't just tingling, but flat out loss of feeling. It almost seeems more associated with loss of circulation (like your foot 'falling asleep'), but it has a sudden onset and sudden termination. Does this sound familiar or common? Of course I will bring this up with my doctors, but now I'm worried to wait 2 weeks. Thanks for any input.

Any sudden onset of something like this could be a warning. Call your doctor now. I am sure everybody else will agree. Might be a nerve - might not. God bless.

Hi Jet Service,

It sure doesn't sound familar nor common to me. Sometimes arms can go "to sleep" just like legs do and that can be from how you are positioned in bed or a chair or whatever. Most certainly if you can't trace it back to something as benign as that you do need to report it to your doctor. The sudden onset part is concerning.

Please let us know what you find out. How are you doing otherwise?

Hensylee hit it dead on. Call your Doctor and let him know. It's most likely a nerve causing problems from them having you spread apart, but it could also be a clot. Not worth taking a chance!

Thanks everyone. I will call the doctor's office Monday. So far its only happened three times. All three times it happened just as I released pressure from my under arm. I'll keep you posted.

bvdr, I'm actually doing quite well. My appetite is ravenous right now LOL! My weight is steady at about 200 which is perfect. Pre-surgery, I was 215. A target weight of 195 would be nice, but I'm not going to try to push that. I'm not sleeping near as much as I thought I would. A lot of people say 'do what your body tells you' and so far, I've had no desire to sleep during the day. After long walks or activities, I do feel a bit down, but not necessarily tired. It almost feels like I've been working out all day without eating anything. Kind of a weak, lethargic feeling. At that point I generally sit down and watch TV or go online until I get my energy back. My sleep at night is getting better. I'm able to sleep in my normal positions without too much discomfort. This morning when I woke up, it was the first time since that I felt good. All other mornings have been terrible. It's clear I was getting fitful sleep and hopefully that is going away. All in all, I completely expected something different for recovery. I was prepared to be bed-ridden for 2 weeks with periods of getting up and walking. It really the other way around. I'm up with periods of rest. I'm still having problems with not being able to lift anything. Very frustrating watching my wife haul a 30 lbs bag of dog food in while I sit there eating ice-cream. I started to get up and she told me to 'sit my butt back down' LOL!

I know what you mean about having to watch others do work for you! I hated that. I am glad to hear that you are doing so well. It sure is nice to have the mountain behind you isn't it?

Indeed its good! And those persistent pesky pre-surgery heart palps are no more! Its clear those were a result of the diseased valve. What a relief!!!
