Greetings from room 2200 at Kaiser Medical Center. I had a turn for the worse 5/13 - labored breathing and retention of water. Basically, I was in CHF and needed to get back to the hospital ASAP. So back to Kaiser at 1 AM and here I am, still.

It appears that my kidneys were not very happy with the Lasik regime and proceeded to shut down. My blood pressure dropped like a stone and I was one messed up cookie for a few days.

Today, Steve was kind enough to bring in my laptop so I could pay some bills and maybe enter a line or two on the blog. So, that is what I'm doing...

I am humbled by the number of people who are reading this blog and I am appreciative of the messages/comments that you all have written. It has brought me laughter and joy and tears too. I thank you all for making me smile and remember with great fondness so many wonderful times that we have shared.

Today is a good day. I lost 3 pounds from yesterday - using a secret recipe from Mr Jelly Belly (much too gross to detail here) and my kidney function has greatly improved. I am hopeful that they will restart the Lasik tomorrow and that my body will cooperate. If so, I'm changing my name to I.P. Freely...

I'm feeling a bit spent at the moment, so I'll log off. Don't forget my own bog at http://laynekulwin.blogspot.com/ where my partner Steve is keeping everyone up to date. Today is a good day. I hope to be home soon!

Thanks again to you all! LK

Layne, I hope you get this resolved quickly. Give Steve our thanks for getting the instrument you need to keep us updated. I'll keep checking your blog.

Best wishes!

It happens unfortunately. Glad to see they got you back to near normal. Perhaps Lasix isn't your game. Maybe they need to really monitor the dosing until they figure out.

Layne,

Appreciate that you're keeping the sense of humor and sharp wit. Hope all's well soon and you can proceed to full recovery. (Maybe later we can ask about the Mr. Jelly Belly remedy. :p

Sounds like your through the worst of it. Hang in there and hopefully you can get yourself out of the hospital soon and get back to recovery !

Layne-

Keep your chin up. I can't tell you how many times Joe had bouts of CHF, his kidneys were too dry, then they were too wet, went on for years and years--so I guess what I am trying to say is all this can be corrected. Sure, it's a total pain, but with careful monitoring of kidney function, your kidneys should recover enough to get back on some lasix.

Once your heart heals and gets in better shape, it should start to pump more efficiently so fluid won't be such an issue.

I see a good recovery on the horizon.
