My cardio recently put me on lasix and I forgot to ask him if I should limit fluid intake or continue to drink the fluids I am accustomed to. I have always limited salt and eat very low amounts.

Thanks for help.

I'd call and ask. Sometimes they do want you to and sometimes they don't, but you won't know without asking.

I too am on furosemide (Lasix generic) & I must watch my fluid intake as well. The doctors prefer I limit my fluid intakes to less than 950cc per day (about 32 oz a day).

I also have to take potassium to supplement the potassium loss during urination. This too has to be finely balanced! (and I have regular blood work to check on potassium, kidney, functions & levels.)

Please check w/your doctor on this first though!

I too take Lasix 40mg a day and 90mg of Potassium. Your dr should of regulated
your doses to balance out your system. I drink at least 8 to 10 cups of water a day, the more you drink the more you urinate. I have always drink about that amount of water, when you live in the desert you need more water. :) I would still call your dr to see what he or she suggests and what about the potassium?
How many mg are you taking per day? How much water do you usually drink per day? I also have blood work to check all my levels about once every six months.
But, I have been on lasix and potassium for about three years. Took it before my OHS. Hopefully that gives you some info to check with your dr. Let us know what the outcome is. Good Luck!!!:)

Thanks all for your help. I have naturally high potassium levels and actually had to stop one medication because it caused my potassium to raise too high. Until he tests me, which will be soon, I'll have a banana, kiwi or tomato juice daily in order to have some added potassium.

I will call my cardio tomorrow to ask about fluids. I think you're right I should check with him. I'd rather safe than sorry.
Thank you, as always. :)

I would say like everyone else, check with your doc, I am currently on lasix and have no fluid restrictions. You do have to make sure you do not dehydrate though which can lead to low BP if you are on other meds.
