Anybody ever use this drug while on Coumadin? If so what does it do to your INR? Does it make your INR rate go up or down or no effect?

Okay now you know I got Toe Fungis

TERBINAFINE (in Lamisil Oral) may interact with WARFARIN SODIUM (in Coumadin)

Warfarin is generally used to prevent your blood from "coagulating" or forming blood clots. This drug is broken down and removed from the body by the liver. If this happens too quickly, then potentially less warfarin would be available for the body to use and blood levels could become too low. Terbinafine may cause warfarin to be broken down at a faster rate than normal. When terbinafine and warfarin are used at the same time, warfarin may be less effective and this could cause the blood to clot more. If these drugs are taken together, your doctor may want to monitor you closely when warfarin. If you are experiencing problems, it may be necessary to adjust the dose of warfarin. Ask your healthcare provider about these drugs and this potential interaction as soon as possible.

In short, it will lower your INR.

So if I am going to take this drug I should try to stay on the high side of my range?

The only sure way to find out is to test perhaps a little more often to see how it's affecting your INR. Some of these things make it sound like major changes will occur, when in fact, change is hardly noticable. Always different from person to person, so please test a little more often till your sure.

Lamisil is very hard on the body, especially the liver. My doctor, as a rule of thumb, won't prescribe it to anyone over age 50. If you do decide to take it, you should have a liver function test first. The medication should be taken for 12 weeks and it is very expensive..about $240 per month. Some insurance companies do not cover it.

I had a fungal problem with several toes and used Tea tree oil. This was recommended to one of our members, Christina, by Dr. Andrew Weil. It's alot safer and alot cheaper. I'm told that oregano oil works well too.

You might want to do a search on Lamisil. There seems to be a great deal of information about this available. http://pricepills.net/lamisil-oral.php

has set up shop on my feet and I'd love to kick his butt off. I don't know if there is anything to it or not, but in addition to Blanches offerings, Vicks vaporub applied to the nails for a month or two supposedly works too.

Thanks Blanch,

I have tried several topical treatments over the years and finally just gave up. I just learned to live with it but now a couple of nails are out of control and I just have to do something about it. My primary Doctor suggested Lamisil and he used it and it worked as advertised. I am to go back and see him for a liver blood test after 30 days to make sure I can continue the treatment. It is expensive but luckily my insurance pays for this so I only have a $15 co-pay.It's funny that they will pay for this but not coumadin Go Figure.

Only the brand name Lamisil is available.

Coumadin is the same as generic warfarin.

That's how come.
